I'm an AL east-coaster. Would Rockies-watchers chime comment, on what seems to be up? The things I'd read/heard/seen regarding the Rockies were so much tighter. I'm really surprised.

Nah, I got it: Boston's been swinging away while the Rockies take pitches (which is also a basic difference between the leagues). No real problem with taking pitches until you get behind, because then the opposing pitcher doesn't need to give you something you can hit hard.
