Today I stopped by Safeway to pick up a few things. Everything was going just fine until I got to the register. First off, the sign over the register read "10 items or less," rather than "10 items or fewer." Honestly, doesn't anyone know English anymore? Second, way back in the line was some guy who looked like the Incredible Hulk and he was dragging two carts with 50 lb bags of "Purina Seitan" and mumbling as he counted the items in other people's carts. I have no idea what his problem was. Then the kicker was when this guy right behind me goes ballistic because I hauled out my checkbook, yelling some nonsense about the '80s being over and how COULD anyone think about writing a check while California was burning. I was so flustered that I couldn't even remember today's date.

What a day.
