San Jose man eats 103 Krystals to set new record at championship
Sunday, October 28, 2007

(10-28) 15:31 PDT Chattanooga, Tenn. (AP) --
Joey Chestnut swallowed 103 Krystal hamburgers in eight minutes Sunday to set a new world record and win the Krystal Square Off IV World Hamburger Eating Championship.

The 23-year-old from San Jose, Calif., surpassed the previous world record of 97 Krystals held by Japan's Takeru Kobayashi, set at last year's Krystal Square Off.

"We never thought we'd see someone anywhere near, let alone past the century mark when we started the Krystal Square Off in 2004," said Brad Wahl, vice president of marketing, The Krystal Company. "But like when Roger Bannister broke the four-minute mile barrier more than 50 years ago, Joey Chestnut has set a new benchmark today for all moving forward."

Kobayashi, who won all three previous Krystal Hamburger Eating Championships, didn't compete this year because of lingering jaw pain from having a wisdom tooth extracted in June.

4. Note that a Krystal burger is about 3/4 of an ounce
Krystals are fresh, small, 2.5 inch square (21 patties to a pound) hamburgers popular throughout the Southeastern United States.

Still... :puke:

Krystals is a southern attempt at white castles. There IS no equal to a good slider after a night out at the bars!!!

8. Well, that's impressive
in a "makes-me-sick-to-my-stomach" kind of way. Participating in an eating contest just doesn't seem worth it for a number of reasons. I actually do like Krystal burgers, though. Actually, their Spicy Chicken sandwiches are my favorites, but I really can't imagine trying to consume more than maybe a dozen at once, though the most I've ever actually consumed in one sitting is three!
