Did anyone see upside down US flags at the Super Bowl?
I'm sorry if this was discussed yesterday I was off work and cleaning up our apartment.

During (I think) the national anthem CBS cut to a shot from behind a crowd who appeared to be under one of the levels of stands. The person closest to the camera (with their back turned to the camera) held a US flag upside down and I think I saw several people in the camera shot doing the same.

Though I don't really support this kind of demonstration I have learned that it is acceptable under the etiquette for display of the US flag.

Did anyone else see this? If it was discussed over the last two days I would appreciate a link to that thread or article. I know I saw that.

1. They showed it on Jon Stewart last night
I totally support that kind of demonstration. =)
In fact, I would have been delighted had the whole crowd had the chutzpah to do it.

2. I saw it aswell
Yes there was a thread the same night but it's long lost.

I saw this aswell, but I dunno what it was, they didn't look like protesters, and it was like 3 rows doing it.. also they sat way up so nobody would have seen them anyway if the camera hadn't picked that up.

5. Isn't holding the flag upside down a distress signal? n/t

7. That's what it means, though often it's misinterpreted.

11. Hate to say this..
..but it more likely it's just a dumbass rather than a protestor.

14. They Were Poster Board (Construction Paper) Signs / Flags
and we were viewing them from the reverse angle.

I'm guessing that the person holding the poster board had a sign "Go Team!" or something on one side... and an American flag drawing on the back side.

By making each side "upside-down" to the other side, the person holding the sign can easily flip to the side they want. A top-to-bottom two-handed sign-flip is probably a lot easier to accomplish when compared with a side-to-side rotation of the sign.

I didn't explain it very well, but if you read it once more, it MIGHT make sense.
