Texas vs. Texas A&M game thread

About halfway through the first quarter, the Aggies are up 7-0, but Texas is about to get good field position after an Aggie punt.

I know that we have several Longhorn and Aggie fans here in the lounge--any of them watching today?

I'm not a fan of either school, but my distaste for the longhorns surpasses my distaste for the Aggies :)

2. Money Talks

True story: I was working in a copy shop back in the 80s. Someone came in and their resume said they helped reestablish the University of Texas student government after it has been abolished.

I asked them why the UT student government was abolished. She said someone ran for student body president and their platform was to replace the school's lofty Latin motto with the phrase "Money Talks." They won.

Just thought I'd pass along that worthless anecdote. Not watching the game since I don't have ESPN.

Our football team has gone down the tubes since Mack left.

I grew up pulling for Wake Forest. I have very fond memories of their 1979 season when Mackovic led to them to one of the most improbable seasons ever. They beat Georgia in Athens the same week that Penthouse declared them to be one of the 20 worst college football teams.

I was certainly happy to see Mackovic go. He stood on the sidelines and was the most uninspired coach I ever watched. He never showed emotion and it was always up the middle... up the middle... up the middle... etc. It was horrible.

I used to be a member of the UT student government. The UT student government WAS abolished, but it was brought back in the early '80's by a group led by none other than Paul Begala.

When I was a member from '94-'95, there was a ticket run by a group of far right-wing wackos and libertarians called "C.R.A.P." which stood for "The Campaign to Retire Aspiring Politicos." They lost. They lost badly.

There's always been an anti-government element hovering around the student government. I wouldn't be surprised if some aspiring ideologues don't try again.

me HATES the Aggies. The school epitomizes the obnoxious "redneck" mentality of Texas. I didn't accuse anyone of being one just what the school represents to many Texans.

and I did not call anyone a redneck but I have come across many Aggie students calling us "Spics" in San Antonio growing up so they are not very loved in San Antonio. So on that note I stand by what I think, don't like it put me on ignore!!

Oddly, when I first started teaching college in Misouri, I had a girl named Kyle Field Anderson (not real last name....)

Still, don't care too much about outcome except for fact that A&M win would make my rapidly declining father happy.
