4. I saw it a long time ago... |

thought Bob Geldof was a good choice for Pink. Yeah, Gerald Scarfe's animation is great. Some pretty disturbing imagery there. Unfortunately, growing up in the states, I lose alot of the metphors that R. Waters puts into his music (and that made it into the movie). He seems to have been terribly affected by WWII. I'm not sure, but I thinks he remembers some of the Blitz or lost a family member in the war. I'm sorry, I'm not well versed on PF history.
However, I think David Gilmour is one of the greatest rock guitarists in history. The passion he pours into his playing. The careful choosing of notes in his solos is awe-inspiring.
I like Pink Floyd, but I don't listen to them much anymore. It was music that spoke to a younger me.

5. Lots of people hate it |
|
Edited on Tue Feb-03-04 02:04 PM by tridim
Including Roger Waters. Maybe hate is too strong a word, I do know he had differences with the director's vision and wasn't happy with the final product.
I love it for the music, the animation and the cinematography. It's really a beautiful film in all respects. I actually own it on Laser Disc. :)
On Edit: I've had "Money" playing in my head all morning. Oddly enough there's a line from the song in The Wall, "New car, caviar, four-star daydream...I think I'll buy me a football team."

first off Roger didn't want Geldof playing "Pink", because Geldof was very vocal about having a disdain for Pink Floyd
Alan Parker and Roger clashed, Roger felt it was always meant to be a somewhat humorous thing, Alan ended up winning out

11. Saw it on opening day back in 198(2)? |
|
I was a huge Pink Floyd fan. Personally, I thought the movie really depicted what was going on in my mind when I listened to the album. I thought Alan Parker, as lurid as he usually is, did a great job directing it. And it was great to hear some of the songs (e.g., "When the Tigers Broke Free") that got left off of the original album.
I once played this album continuously for 10 hours straight in high school. I developed a new appreciation for Toni Tennille (of Captain & Tennille fame) and Bruce Johnson (of the Beach Boys). They both performed on this album, and they did a fantastic job.

13. One of my favorite films. |
|
I've heard several veterans say that this is the most realistic war movie made, as far as capturing the terror, confusion, and despair of battle.
Some people think that Bob Geldof's performance in this movie prevented him from getting the Nobel Peace Prize.

17. Ahem, I saw the original concert |
|
Edited on Wed Feb-04-04 08:20 PM by marshallplan
They only did it in a few cities, I saw it in London. It blew me away. The sound effects were amazing of helipcopters and bombers flying overhead. They built a huge wall of styrofoam blocks in front of the band during the concert. Every so often, they'd clear a space and you could see them playing, but by the end, they were covered by the wall. There were huge Scarfe caricature figures of the judge, wife etc playing on top of the wall. And in the end, "Tear Down the Wall" - it was all torn down. Pretty amazing, and I feel very lucky to have seen it live.

18. I've owned it on tape for years....haven't gotten it on DVD yet tho..... |
|
....the only time I ever did blotter acid we watched it while trippin'....after it was over we turned it off and the three of us kept hearin' "...I've got nowhere to Fly To...fly to....fly to....fly to..." echoin' in our heads...yet the room was silent...it was a mass audible hallucination...whoa
I'm definitely a Floyd fan....Obscured By Clouds...Animals...The Wall....Wish You Were Here....love 'em all :)

It turned my world upside down. "Another brick in the wall" was one thing, but the rest of the album and the whole concept of "the wall" and what I now realize was the themes about autism and alienation blew me out of the water.

20. Do you remember me... |
|
how we used to be...do you think we could be closer?
Remember when Pink was sitting on the floor of the restroom stall toward the end of the movie, flicking the water in the toilet with his fingers and singing that verse? The song he sang is "Do You Remember Me?" from "The Final Cut"--the last Floyd w/Roger album.
