humans scare me: its as though we have NO ability to remember and analyze information
Edited on Wed Dec-05-07 09:08 AM by lionesspriyanka
i post this is the lounge and not in GD because i don't want to be labeled anti-human and thereby self hating.

So i am reading the news paper this morning and on the cover is BUsh stating that despite all evidence he still thinks iran is a threat.

My immediate thought is, who will believe you this time? This is the same thing you said about iraq and you were wrong.

I read 2 more page of the paper and there is an opinion poll: all three people are convinced that Iran is still a thread requiring action.

I mean really, we just had a war about the same thing.

fucking goddamn shit.

1. Why do you hate humanity?
What was it Bush once said, fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice.... won't get fooled again.

6. People have been conditioned to believe what's on TV
Back in the old days, TV newsmen were respectable and honest - Edward R. Murrow and Walter Cronkite were probably the two prime examples.

However, now we have Bill O'Reilly, Brit Hume, Sean Hannity, Neil Cavuto, etc, spewing white house talking points.

3. I too am baffled!
Even with proof positive slapping people in the face, they still can't see the truth. It's exasperating.

5. Proof has nothing to do with it.
We don't want to bomb Iran because they are making nuclear weapons. We just want to bomb Iran.

I bet Cheney must have been FURIOUS when that NIE came out though.

4. I saw a study recently (can't remember where unfortunately)
but it showed that people are often more likely to remember wrong information than right information. Refuting something can cause someone to remember it wrong as well. I.E., when you say "There were no WMDs in Iraq.", people just remember WMDs and Iraq, and they don't remember the 'There were no' part.

Of course, I prefer my condensed version. People are stupid. Saves a lot of time explaining the little details that way.

7. Best evidence yet that people do not make decisions based on fact
they make them based on their own desires. Desire Utilitarianism makes more and more sense to me every day - http://atheistethicist.blogspot.com/2006/12/better-place-selected-essays-on-desire.html

12. It's very scary....
...we have example upon example of human folly. Yet we keep doing the same.

Until the majority of people in this world get really tired of an inbred elite aristocracy running their lives, I just don't see a change.

14. People are too busy making cakes from boxes and voting on American Idol
to pay attention to anything less meaningful, like world politics or the economy.

15. The United States has a really bad personality disorder.
We simply cannot accept that we are often the bad guy in our international relationships. Our national self image seems to rest upon "our" defeat of the Nazi and Japanese empires in the Second World War, and therefore everything we do must be good.

That's simply not the case. We claim we care about human rights, we claim we care about the earth's environment, but our actual behavior clearly demonstrates that we do not.

Our national personality is that of a violent narcissist.

When we look in the mirror we always see something good, and we refuse to recognize our flaws. Any rational analysis of our behavior takes us to places we don't want to go, so we simply don't do it.

We would rather believe the comforting lies on the evening news; lies that blame others for everything wrong in the world. We will not admit to ourselves that the United States is very often a corrupt and insatiable monster that murders, tortures, and starves those who stand in its way.

The horror of it all is that George W. Bush truly represents the national will, otherwise he and his administration would have been thrown out of office and imprisoned during their first term in office.

In the same way that Dick Cheney can get drunk and shoot a man in the chest and face without consequences, and even demand an apology from his victim, the United States can fire upon nations like Iraq and Venezuala, and blame them for getting in the way of our insatiable demand for oil.

fucking goddamn shit, indeed!
