4. things such as this video
Edited on Wed Dec-05-07 11:56 AM by jasonc
make me wonder what kind of cold heart it takes to be cruel to animals.

:(

Animals are so much more intelligent and aware than we give them credit for, as this video shows.

It is good that they rescued that Lion, and it appears the Lion appreciates it as well.

Vinnie (the Corgi in the other post) thinks Jack (this guy: Lab/Pibble) was a birthday present. They PLAY 24/7.

...in a way, is even more amazing (especially when you watch the reaction of the lion's wild companion).

We saw it on the Discovery Channel, but we didn't buy the DVD. It's now rare and usually commands a big price.

WONDERFUL documentary on animal emotion.

32. I agree
As someone who's lived with many animals all his life, most of whom were rescues, they are very appreciative.

I have witnessed my pets being sneaky, afraid, happy, sad, bored, excited, and even when they try to figure something out. They may not think the way we do, but they do have emotions and some sort of rudimentary thoughts.

27. More background on this story here
Warning, it'll break your heart:

"People in Cali, Colombia, are shocked to see the bond between a large African lion and a woman who saved it from abuse, involving long, affectionate kisses and hugs between the pair.

Ana Julia Torres, who runs the Villa Lorena animal shelter in Cali, fed and nursed Jupiter the African lion back to health years ago after it was found abused and emaciated in a traveling circus.

"It is amazing to see an animal like that be so sweet and affectionate," said Torres. "This hug is the most sincere one that I have received in my life."

28. Animal cruelty enrages me.
First I get upset to the point of avoidance, then a fury takes over that makes me glad I don't live next to the abusers as I own guns and don't want to know if I might use one.

37. Large cats mount from behind, they START w/erection, and bite the neck of the female....
...to hold her DOWN, the only position where felines mount from.

Canines hump legs; Felines do not hump vertically.

Dirty mind!

38. Watch more National Geographic. I know how male felines handle
the dangerous females, but this is still domination and marking. The funny part of watching is how it isn't working, but the beast can't stop.

My cat pairs tumble and enjoy themselves. It's normally the female who starts the chase and ends up happily caught. Dirty mind? I find it naturally pleasurable.

39. The dirty mind comment is a JOKE.
We have 4 cats and are intimately familiar with their behavior. We also have been large scale contributors to the Detroit Zoo, and I was in the large cat area of the Houston Zoo as a docent.

These large cats see the people as DOMINANT and benevolent in their relationship and are showing affection. This isn't mounting behavior.

40. I think you're confusing felines w/canines. And LOL @ dirty jokes
My cats express gratitude w/licks ... body slams and scent gland marking is another subject, one that might make people uncomfortable. Humor is one way to address that tension.
