As a heterosexual male, am I wrong in saying |
|

That the guys on Colin Quinn's show "Tough Crowd," in addition to being stupendously unfunny, are some of the ugliest dudes on television?

1. Not as far as THIS hetero male is concerned...... |
|
To paraphrase a time worn saying.... "Ugly is only skin deep but stupid runs to the bone"
I think Colin Quinn is trying to emulate Dennis Miller.
Dennis miller once said something truly funny and witty and it went like this................ .
.
. nope...sorry, it wasnt him.

2. No. I too am heterosexual and think those losers are trolls |
|
Hideous. Jim Norton makes me believe that Curly had less talented, diminutive offspring. Colin Quinn is the best argument for why the Irish crossing the Atlantic wasn't such a good idea. Rich Voss looks like a greaser with Chiclets for teeth. Nick DiPaolo looks like he stepped out of a low-buget mob film.

6. Wow, this place is just CRAWLING with heterosexuals! |
|
Sorry but you guys are killing me. Is it really necessary to preface a simple statement about another man's looks with the hetero disclaimer? Don't mean to offend, but as a homosexual man, I must say I find it pretty funny.

11. Part self-parody, part-modesty, part-immaturity |
|
1. Self-parody. It is a pretty funny preface to any sentence 2. Modesty. I'm a terrible judge of male beauty, but this seems like an easy one 3. Cultural indoctrination and immaturity. This is how I've learned to preface judgments like this--those that sound gay to, oh, 10 year olds, but are just simple statements.

14. How ironic that you have a photo of James Baldwin in this thread |
|
Edited on Thu Feb-05-04 12:19 AM by roughsatori
James Baldwin was cursed with the obsession that he was "ugly." When I first read this thread I was going to respond about how some of the most wonderful, talented people I have known were considered physically ugly by many.
There must be something wrong with me. I don't understand adults calling other adults physically ugly. It seems spiritually stunted to me. I once had the temerity to fall in love with a pock-marked "ugly" man and my friends were appalled.
I know this thread was meant as humorous and I was not going to respond--but seeing one of my personal heroes photos got me rambling.

This particular hetero feels no qualms at all in announcing 'Holy crow! Look at that guy! What a gorgeous man!' becuase I'm simply marveling at someone whom I think is very aesthetically pleasing.
Doesn't mean I want to have sex with him; and any woman I point out as someone whom I think is really beautiful also doesn't mean I want to have sex with her.
But sadly, in our culture, if a guy points out that another guy is handsom/well-proportioned/etc., there's a real fear that the person saying it will be labeled a homo.
Perosnally, I don't care if I'm labeled a homo, because I know I'm not, and I have such a huge circle of gay and lesbian friends that I don't feel shame at the moniker "homo", since pretty much every gay person I know is really, really cool and genuinely and positively a compassionate human being. Which I cetainly can't say about a very significant segment of fundy Christian people, and even some of the so-called liberal Christians amongst whom I follow my faith call.
Personally, to me, gay , straight, bi, I don't care, and I don't think it matters. And for me, I'm totally happy to say "Wow! That guy is gorgeous!" without adding "but I'm not gay". Orlando Bloom as Legolas? Bloody beautiful/gorgeous. Also Viggo. And I remember a guy I went to college with - simply beautiful and a pleasure to look at. A real sort of Adonis figure. And I'm not ashamed to say it, nor feel the need to qualify it with "but I'm not gay".

It's mostly a bunch of never-been Bush ass kissers. Quinn can't tell a single joke without screwing it up half way and having to start over. He has the worst delivery I've seen in any comedian. Now I'll tell you what I really think.....

8. I hate Colin Quinn so much |
|
. . . that I actually switch to the high school sports on the crappy local news station for the last six minutes between The Daily Show and Letterman.
Those guys are not only ugly; they're idiots.

20. Excuse me, BUT . . . . . . . . . . . . . |
|
there is no crappy local sports in WI. I know you said 'crappy' in reference to the news station itself, but the implication, that you only watch the crappy news station which happens to be playing local sports is that the sports themselves are also not really worth your attention, other than that they are better than the other show you hate, which is Colin Quinn.
And you, who drape yourself in the flag during Sunday worship of our lord and creator. Sad.
note to other DUers: the last statement is a person in-jopke between the family-values-hating WyoMee and myself, and not to be taken seriously. By the way, I happen to know you have two french press mugs. America hater.
A real Wiconsinte LIVES on local sports.
(Rabrrrrrr being serious: WI does love their local sports, and rightly so, but let's face it, when it comes to progressive amd politically interested states, you won't find many better than WI)

He strikes me as the type who calls a girl at midnight after he's been out with his buddies drinking all evening and expects to get laid.
