Jimmy Buffett sues Hockessin eatery
(Robb's note: Best name for an attorney ever...)

Says Margaritaville name is his

Singer Jimmy Buffett wants a federal court to prohibit a Hockessin restaurant from calling its outdoor bar "Margaritaville," the name of his 1970s' ode to a frozen tequila drink.

(snip)

The lawsuit filed by Wilmington attorneys Cathy Reese and Charles Michael Terribile on Buffett's behalf seeks a court order barring Chew and the restaurant from using the Margaritaville name in any way. It also seeks unspecified damages and attorney fees.

(snip)

The lawsuit alleges patrons have visited Samantha's Margaritaville thinking they were headed for a Buffett-related venue, only to be confused. Chew said his bar bears no photos of Buffett, and he doesn't own any of the singer's music. He questioned whether patrons would really think Buffett had a restaurant in Hockessin, when his other outfits are in places such as New Orleans and Las Vegas.

"I don't think it's a metropolis," he said.

:D

1. Mr. Terribile, approach the bench, please.
Seems like his first and middle names should be "Ivan the". :7

3. Wilmington, DE?
No wonder Buffett wants to sue. The armpit of the mid-Atlantic.

Wilmington, NC. Heck, he'd probably let a body start a franchise! ;-)

7. Spent 10 Days There Once!
Was an expert witness in a federal antitrust trial back in 1996. Didn't see too much of the city though.

Because of the rules of fed trials, if i was out of my hotel room when court was in session, the other side could have called me as a hostile witness. That would have messed up the overall plan of the lawyers with whom i was working.

So, i sat in my room while court was in session reviewing all the evidentiary papers, (8am to 4pm), went out for dinner then back to my room to continue reviewing the paperwork. Not exactly a vacation. But, from the little i saw, it was ok. And the dinner restaurants were all quite good.

16. That march is a ball!
I did it most of the years I lived in/around DC. It was so amazing and humbling to see so many people come from all over to support women's human rights. I wanted to marry each and every guy there! :D

Then he could be I.M. Terribile.

12. Gee, there's a "My Way Cafe" south of here
The walls are festooned with Sinatra memorabilia but I don't think Sinatra ever sued them. So when did everything become "intellectual property"?

Note the Sinatra silhouette on the awning.
