Do Democrats play golf?
I do. I know, it's a rich boy's game and the price of 18 holes is just outrageous these days but I still love it. I just play through the Rethugs with their carts with GPS. FOUR!!!!

7. I work in the golf industry.
My company does marketing, pr and media production for golf clients.

The game itself, in its pure form, is an incredible zen exercise in self discipline and transformation.

The real estate intensive format of the playing field turned it into a bourgeoise passtime, but that's not the game's fault.

8. I golf at public courses, not country clubs.
When I started golfing I was a repub due to parental influence (I was 15 at the time). I grew up, learned to think for myself, and have been a staunch Dem since I first could vote in 1968. But I have kept golfing and enjoying it. I just don't have the time or extra money to do it as frequently as I would like.

I give lessons and own a driving range.

Golf is a very popular game right now that is slowly shedding it's aloof image, thanks in large part to Tiger Woods and the roaring 90's "I am too" culture and economy. It seems like everybody, from all walks of life can and do play these days.

I have a mutant swing. Think Caddy Shack Hartunin slice. But it goes for miles. If I turn 45 degrees to the course I can keep in on the fairway. I have won long drive competitions this way. Drives the regulars crazy.

Golf is the most anal retentitve sport ever made. It consists of chasing a small ball around a giant lawn and trying to get it into a small hole.

I am in the Chicago area. If you want to join a kick-ass twilight league in Buffalo Grove, let me know. I think the greens fees are like $15, league entry fee is $51.

I also do an outing with my friends every August. It's open to all that like to golf and drink beer, really a great deal and alot of fun. When the time comes and I get my flyers done I am gonna post an invite for all DUers here in the lounge.

32. I played golf before I knew I was a Democrat
Well, close. Age 6 for both.

I play with a few friends who are Democrats. But every summer it's pickup foursomes during my travels across the country, invariably Republican.

My handicap has more than doubled since my teenage junior golf glory days in Florida, but when I was good I managed a 79 at St Andrews and even par the last 7 holes at Pebble Beach, with a birdie on 18! Brings a smile whenever I see the pros tackle that hole, like this week. I'm glad they seldom show the first six holes at Pebble. I absolutely butchered them.

33. Here's one for ya. The worst part of the game
for me is the needless and flustrating waiting. This fall myself and some friends were playing one of our local courses. We were playing behind some older gentlemen. These guys were SLOW. REAL SLOW!! On number three one of the sluggers drives (a massive hook) into the lumber. About 210 yards. Down the middle of the fairway they go (two carts). Slugger gets off his cart and heads into the woods to retrieve his ball. He strolls around apparently looking for his ball and after 10 minutes is joined by his fellow duffers. By now people are stacking up behind us in a holding pattern. The search goes on and on and on. Do they wave us through? Hell no. Finally they all emerge from the woods. Oh good, the guy is going to take a drop. We're twenty minutes into this drama by now. Not one of theses pros has hit a second shot. Wandering around, back and forth, getting a drink and just farting around. By now we're going to hit through after watching this circus but by this point in time the stand up routines around the tee were really funny. Three groups backed up now. Hook slugger gets in his cart, turns around and heads straight back toward us. Gets to the tee, never says a word, gets his driver out, tees up and proceeds to hook into the exact area he lost his first ball in. He turns around and says, "mulligan". I cannot tell you how much abuse that guy took.

37. I Use A Cleveland Driver, Too!
I don't have that model, though. I've got the one that came out just before that line. (The Quadpro) I bought it at a close-out at Golf Galaxy for $54. (One day only, unadvertised close-out sale!)

I like it because it sets up square (unlike Callaway which are 3 degrees closed) and the shaft has a low kickpoint, which is good for a low ball hitter, like me. It's the best driver i've ever had.

I don't buy that many, though. (This might be my 4th one ever.) I'm not one who thinks we can buy a game.

38. I liked the set-up look, too.
This one looks maybe 1 degree closed at most. I took it into the simulator and cranked off a few nice-looking drives (according the simulator which was honest when I made bad swings). Even my errant drives were right on the sweet spot.

Anybody in the market for a Taylor Made 360, ultralight S-90 shaft? :D

I used to be a club-swapper, but I'm pretty happy with every club I have in the bag now. LOVE my irons; they're keepers, until I wear 'em out.

39. Same As Me With My Irons
Hogan Apex. Vokey Wedges. TalyorMade Putter. Adams Fairway Woods (the old ones with the low profile)

I bought the fairway woods for $30 buck a piece, used, but in nearly perfect condition.

Everything else bought new, but bought them from a pro who really likes me and he deeply discounted the stuff. (Probably 40% or so.)

The swing's the thing! Equipment is just there to actually hit the ball.

Good equipment + Bad Swing = bad shots! Good Swing + Any Equipment = Good Golf!

It's really that simple.

40. I thought about trading in the irons, but glad I didn't.
I have the Mizuno MX-20. Loved forged irons! I had a set of forged Wilsons before this set.

My fairway woods (4 and 7) are Taylor Made. The 4 is a 300 Tour and the 7 is an old Burner Bubble 2. Bought the 4 on closeout and the 7 in the used bin.

I have a Vokey 52 and Mizuno MP 56 and 60 (both forged). All bought used.

Love, love, love my Scotty Cameron putter. Also a closeout, I paid $5 for it, plus trading off a bunch of crap I didn't like or use.

I just need to play more. I got lazy this year. :-(

41. Ha, why buy your 360 when I suddenly own TWO 320s?
I sampled my friend's Taylor 320Ti in Miami at Christmas, and absolutely killed it. So I sampled eBay a couple weeks ago and found one in excellent condition with a very reasonable Buy It Now of $65.

Get this, the guy sent me TWO of them, one an inch longer than the other, 45 1/2 and 44 1/2, both with Grafalloy Ulralight S-90. I checked my Pal Pal account and only paid for one.

Sigh. Just what I need, a test of my eBay honesty. I'll likely send the longer one back, since I hit both on the range yesterday and prefer the 44 1/2.

I'm old school with early '90s Hogan Apex Grind blades, with oversize original Cobras as cavity-back backups. Plus I use an old Bullseye wideblade John Reuter design putter, so I can putt either way depending on the break, a la Notah Begay.

Actually, mine is a Cleveland 330 Launcher, Proforce 65 tip-stiff shaft. What a ripper.

In the words of Tiger, I'm a "driving range hero," unable to afford many real rounds since cheney's buds legally stole my life savings & retirement funds. Love pissing off the Range Repugs, cutting their politics and then out-hitting most all of them. It just fries them that a lib'rul sweatpants pauper could make their 5-days-a-week country clubbing look like so much futility.

36. I Do!
I'm a liberal and i play golf, A LOT! I'm a 5 handicap and play in about 4 tournaments per year. I think the whole rich man's game is a canard. It hasn't been true since the 50's. My dad was a truck driving Teamster, who probably never voted for an "R" until he was in his 60's, and he played golf.

My playing partners are: truck driver, plumber, heating & cooling salesman, an engineer, the engineer's wife who works as an secretary at a phone company, and a sheet metal worker. I don't know for sure if they're all dems, but they're not all rich.

So much for that myth.

45. golf is Evil and Wrong!
Guess my blue collar and age are showing. I grew up watching the Three Stooges and Dagwood Bumstead lampooning the wretched activity. Never had an urge to Ape the Rich.
More seriously, golf courses are a plague upon the land, destroying massive acreage of habitat and dumping megatons of herbicides and pesticides into the water. What has happened to the SC coast is criminal. Areas that I have birded and hunted reptiles are now the habitat of goofs chasing balls.
As Samuel Clemmens said, "Golf is the ruination of a good walk".
