If she's hard of hearing, she can get a pass.
If she knows any of the people in the trial, she could get a pass.
If it's a capital trial and she's anti-death penalty, she can get a pass.
If she has preconceived notions about the trial, she can get a pass.

3. Perhaps it's different where she lives, but here.. |
|
if you don't get picked for a trial, you don't get to go home. You go back to the jury waiting room, sit on hard chairs, and wait.
Jury duty is all about waiting.
You wait to go down and answer questions.
You go back upstairs and wait to hear if you've been picked.
You wait for another judge to need another pool of jurors to choose from.
Jury duty is hell. It is a living hell -- IF you don't get on a jury. Because they don't send you home (again, maybe it's different where you're from).
I'm 25 and I've had jury duty four times. :-(

4. Now this pisses me off! I have always wanted to be on a jury |
|
and have never been picked.
I am absolutely fascinated by the legal process...too bad your mom and I can't switch!

I was only ever called once. Went down to Greensburg, sat at the courthouse all day, with about 75 other people. Not one person was called for anything. Turns out there were only two cases that day: a civil one that settled out of court, and a criminal one that was postponed. No luck for me. Sent home. :(!

5. A different take on it... |
|
As much of a pain in the butt it can be, try to look at it from the angle that a sane and able person is serving.
I served on a jury once and it was very stressful, but I was so glad that I did. It should be considered a privilege to participate in a very important part of our justice system.
