Arrrggghhh!!! Wouldn't life be easier without family?! |
|
Just had a phone call from my dad. He was going to spend Christmas with my sister, about an hour from here, and I was going to drive up for the day. But my sister's girlfriend (right, like sis had no say) has decided that the two of them should spend the day alone. Which is fine, except my dad is kinda hurt that they decided so late. Thinks they're pissed at him for something. I doubt that's it. Sis can be insensitive. And she's in love, so doesn't see past those feelings.
My dad is really the nicest guy in the world. Honest. And he still has trouble on holidays since my mom's death. In fact, today is their 52nd birthday. I sent him flowers. My sister called to tell him not to come on Christmas.
It's still early. I could drive up there, smack her, and be back home for a decent night's sleep.
Oh, still have a fog advisory.
So, my dad and I will have a nice Christmas together. Which is fine by me.

I get to spend the holidays where I usually am at my mom's house, deep in the closet. Meanwhile I get the rehash of every dysfunctional family drama of the year and an invitation to take sides.
I miss the city, my cat and my friends far more than I miss that bunch of looney toons I've allegedly got genetic ties to (and I swear the jury's still out on that!)

2. Well, at least my family doesn't require closeting |
|
There are so many queers in my family that everyone got over that at least a generation ago--on my dad's side, anyway. In fact, when I describe myself as "bi" around family, they all roll their eyes and go "Yeah, right". So, that isn't an issue.
So, I'm sorry you're having do deal with your own family dysfunction. But I do understand!!
Have as Merry a Christmas as possible! :hi:
Critters bi. honest.

Seems like everyone's got their own brand of family specialness to deal with.
Hope you and dad have a good one. :hi:

3. You know what will recalibrate your family, don't you? |
|
That's right, a little bit of sacred violent scapegoating.
Just sayin'.

I'll see if we can get everyone together for a little good ol' fashioned torch and pitchfork action over the holidays.

6. I hope you have a wonderful time with your father. |

It sounds like he's staying in the better place. :)
I hope it's just love clouding your sister's judgement.

8. Have a great time with your dad |

My dad was also the nicest guy in the world. He died when I was 30 (20+ years ago). Blow your sister off and have a great holiday.

10. Wow. That's pretty shockingly selfish |
|
I can't imagine uninviting a family member out of Christmas. I'm guessing the GF has some insecurities. It's a shame she can't understand that expanding your family increases the love rather than dividing it up into smaller pieces.

11. yeah, it's kind of late for them to change their minds |

you and dad will have a perfectly lovely holiday w/o them. Try not to let their inconsiderate behavior ruin it for you.
