Arggghhh anybody else stumped by Valentines day????
I know I know a very market driven holiday.... but cut me some slack, I'm newly in love. I'm just at a loss as to what to plan for us.
What are ya'll going to do? Anybody in the Twin Cities area with an idea?

1. I was intrigued by this idea
there was a flyer at my gym from a professional massage salon which is offering a package deal for couples. Massages and a candlelight, gourmet dinner.

4. Sorry, but that's just kinda, ehm, stooooopid
....it's only 'nice' if you give each other a massage....no 'third party'....like, ehm, I'm too lazy to give you any pleasure - if you get my drift. Lame, very lame.

16. I would disagree heartily
I don't happen to be a massage therapist. A "real" massage kicks ass. Great gift!

And I imagine we'll have a nice phone conversation on Valentine's Day. Unfortunately, that's probably going to be it. :(

7. We're finally going to meet the weekend of my birthday.

That'll be March 19-21 at an undisclosed (to all of you, that is) location in the Keystone State, approximately halfway between our respective stomping grounds. To say that I can't wait is a gross understatement!

9. Awwww, that's so sad.

But in the Misery Loves Company Department, the last time I was actually in a relationship on Valentine's Day, the year was 1984!

10. Same here
I was just a kid and I got messed over that time so I gave up relationships to take care of my Mom. I don't want to be alone any longer but I have no other choice.

12. I don't live in the Twin Cities, but here's my advice
1. Don't forget the card.

Buy it, make it, whatever. If you're in a literary mood, a love letter is always good.

2. If you can get them and you like them, strawberries and Devonshire cream.

Here's the recipe for the cream:

'Devonshire' Cream
1 cup sour cream (non-fat)
2 to 3 Tablespoons powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Mix it together, refrigerate till use. Strawberries aren't cheap at this time of year, and the above is always a special treat.

3. I don't know what kind of music you and your love like, so here's a few of our favorites:

"Love Scenes" Diana Krall
"Unplugged" Tony Bennett
"Come Away With Me" Norah Jones

4. A bottle of your favorite beverage. (We're not big boozers, so we go for the chilled Martinelli's sparkling cider.)

Dance, sip your beverage, feed each other the strawberries and Devonshire cream. Let nature take its course :loveya:.

Happy Valentines' Day!
Julie

13. My Favorite Valentine Gift
Edited on Fri Feb-06-04 12:02 AM by MariaS
My husband who can be a real lunkhead can sometimes sweep me off my feet. Several years ago instead of getting me the usual dumb gifts of flowers or candy he got me an autographed football card of Walter Payton. I am a huge Bears fan and he is a huge Packer Fan so I was really very touched. The card became especially meaningful after Walter died. Look for a gift that will touch the heart.

32. That's what we did
We'll be celebrating our second married year, but we've been together for 19. We're going to dinner, then to a local production of Bell Book and Candle.
It does get a little tricky buying an anniversary gift and something for Valentine's, but we couldn't think of a better day to get married.
Good luck bill, I hope you'll enjoy being married as much as we do.

27. the best gift...
...is one that validates what that person thinks of himself or herself. Plan your theme according to a long-held dream. Maybe a visit to a French-style cafe, a foreign film, then coffee in a dark and smoky club. Maybe an afternoon trip on some kind of local train or sightseeing boat with a lunch in a little suitcase. Maybe matinee tickets to the most romantic concert you can find, followed by drinks and hors deourves at a fancy hotel bar?

And if the funds are low, nothing beats a dinner cooked with TLC, some nice music, and a fussy desert, and some candles and flowers.

And guys? There are a lot of women who consider red roses to be a rather boring cliche. You might want to think white lilacs, or gardenias, or orchids, or some exotic lilies. I'd be put off by red roses, personally. If you must get red roses, get them delivered in a box with tissue, not arranged in one of those stiff arrangements.

28. A card is the most important but don't buy Chocolates either
There are too many people on the Atkins diet and you wouldn't wan't to blow it for them.

29. I can't remember the website,
but there's a place somewhere (help me out if you know it) that you can order a bouquet of Belgian chocolate roses. I did this a few years ago, in addition to cooking a romantic dinner, and it went over really well. (If I said how well, I'd get a warning)

30. Do you want to make your honey feel special?
Give her a gift certificate to a day spa or to get her hair and nails done.
When she feels good about herself then you will be happy.

31. My husband is sweeping me off my feet this year
My mom will be babysitting the kid while Paul takes me snow skiing (my first time). We'll be staying at a B&B for three days.

He's been planning (and saving) for this for a while. I'm pretty excited...smiling as I type this.

:loveya:
