A syrupy, treacly, horrible song. The worst.

5. Pretty horrid, but mercifully was not a #1 hit.

IIRC, "Yummy, Yummy, Yummy" peaked at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100. Still too big a hit, though.

Yes..."Watching Scotty Grow" is pretty bad.

39. 2525 wouldn't have been so bad as a novelty number
The first couple of times I heard it, I thought, "Well, that was kind of clever."

It was just when it became a hit and got played over, and over, and over, and over, and over that it became totally obnoxious.

"Honey," on the other hand, was offensive from the very first hearing.

44. NightTrain wasn't taking chances. Year 2525 was on the list...
because I gave him hell about it on a thread last year when he omitted it. NightTrain is not forgiven because hell I was only razzing him in the first place. I rarely miss one of his threads because being a bit of an audiophile myself I am always interested in what he has to say.

And Yes, I voted for In the Year 2525. What a pathetic song.

19. Hell yeah!
<<I demand that you remove that one from your list this instant.>>

Yo, demand this!

<<That song is a classic!>>

It's a classic of horrid, treacly pop, I'll grant you that.

<<Who cares if Herbie can't sing?>>

I do, and it's my poll! (And I'll cry if I want to.)

<<I like "Blue Velvet", too.>>

So do I. By the Clovers, the Moonglows, and the Paragons. But I hate it by Bobby Vinton. In fact, I hate every Bobby Vinton record that I've ever heard, up to and including his 1974 Polish joke, "My Melody of Love."

Just out of curiosity, which tune did you end up voting for?

54. Oh, it was bad
When I was a kid, I thought he was singing about a German mouse called "Micey Tim".

The voice, the lyrics, the poor use of a foreign language (I think it was in Plattdeutsch, not even school German) ... it was out around the time Ue Amuite Arukou ("Sukiyaki") was. I guess that was Warner Brothers' idea of irony.

Muss I Denn really sucked.

40. It was bought by a lot of people who never bought records
It's like when a movie is popular and that sends the soundtrack album to the top of the charts. It really doesn't have anything to do with what the normal record-buying public is interested in.

36. new lyrics for the green berets
courtesy of Michael Pacholek, http://www.amiright.com/parody/60s/barrysadler1.shtml

Slighting soldiers with a lie.
Fearing they will see him cry.
His turn came, he did not try.
'Tis the tale of the Yellow Guy.

Yellow streak goes down his back.
Unilateral attack.
On the Lincoln he did fly.
But he's still a Yellow Guy.

Trained to live off Daddy's hand.
Trained that wombat, should be canned.
We should say, "Hey, George, bye-bye!
Because you're a Yellow Guy."

Yellow streak goes down his back.
Unilateral attack.
On the Lincoln he did fly.
But he's still a Yellow Guy.

Back at home, a young wife waits.
Her soldier boy has met his fate.
He has died for those obsessed
leaving her this last request:

"Tell our son, vote Democrat.
Republicans, enough of that.
He'll be a man with head held high.
No more shame of the Yellow Guy."

Thankfully, there was only one of her!

What I truly resent about "Dominique" is that it was one of the two horrid pop records that kept the Kingsmen's "Louie, Louie" out of the #1 spot. (The other was Bobby Vinton's execrable "There! I've Said It Again.")
