Me: "You know I don't like to see you standing on that."

He: "Then why did you come in here, if you don't like to see me standing on it?"

Darn him and his legal mumbojumbo!

1. LOL! That's excellent!
He's going to be a major annoyance to a principal when he's a teenager - one can hope so, anyway.

And thank you for calling him a 3.75 year old instead of the goddamn obnoxious "45 month old" bullshit.

Jesus, I hate that.

Your son rocks! I hope he keeps that intellect.

12. Months vs. years
It doesn't bother me so much, up to the two-year mark, in large part because so many "milestones" are logged that way, such as "walked at 11 months," etc. But beyond two years it is indeed pretty annoying.

He likes cars and volcanoes and the digestive tract. And he can't go fifteen seconds without asking a question. It can be maddening at times, which is all the more reason to hope that he keeps it up!

Those things burn up in an instant.

The thing is, he said it so matter-of-factly that I didn't know what to say in response. I almost said "Very well, carry on." But some baseline parental instinct said no.

He climbed down pretty quickly, before I could get the camera.

Here's a shot of him from a little while back:

17. My son started mocking us when he was 11 months old.
We wanted him to keep away from a spot on the wall where he was picking away at the old wallboard (it was an old house), and he went over and started shaking his finger in perfect imitation of us "DAH! Dah dah dah DAH!"

He is almost eleven now, and turned out to be a great kid, but still has a great sense of humor and mockery. :)

Cute kid you've got.

18. Thanks! That's a cute story
Thanks to my son, I have concluded that lying is more important to humans than speech, in terms of evolutionary advantage.

That is, he was able to lie (or, at least, to deceive) months before he was able to talk, so I infer that evolution has deemed it a more essential trait than speaking.

We formerly kept our cats' food dishes in the kitchen, and our son knew that he wasn't allowed to touch/play with them, for fear of kibble ingestion. However, we have a heat register on the floor nearby that he is allowed to play with.

We used to catch him crawling in a beeline for the food dishes, and we'd ask "where are you going?" Without changing his stride, he would smoothly shift his direction so that it looked as though he was actually headed for the permitted heat register the whole time.

This happened often enough, and in enough subtly different ways, for us to conclude that he really was pulling the old "nothing to see here" routine on us.

Your story is adorable!

20. He needs to meet my niece
Who will be 3 in 6 days.

At a family dinner at my grandmother's house, my mom was trying to get her to eat another bite of her chicken. Niecelet looked at my mom and asked "Grandma, how come you're so bossy?"
