9. An engagement to Mamie Van Doren
overshadows a 28-51, 4.10 record, as well as the occasional purloined taxi. :D

Belinsky and fellow Angels pitcher George Brunet pretty much owned LA in those days.

15. He also may have been the first pro jock to have a poolside press conference...
Bo blazed a trail for the "hot dogs" yet to come.

Angels skipper Bill Rigney said that Bo could have been a consistent 18+ game-winner, but he had a 10-cent head.

5. Ryne Duren, fireballing relief pitcher for Yanks & Angels...
In the late 1950s-early 1960s. He had his moments, but by his own admission, he abused alchohol, and it had a deleterious effect on his career.

"Ryno" wore coke-bottle glasses, and he would invariably fling one of his warm-up pitches all the way to the backstop, reinforcing the idea that he couldn't see well from the mound -- all in the hopes of intimidating the opposition.

14. My stepbrother.
He was supposed to be good enough to play football for Michigan State just like his grandpa, and instead he ended up at Albion and played maybe five minutes in all four years. He just wasn't fast enough. He's now a cop and a damn fine one, but he just couldn't pass muster in football.
