Why evangelising religious people (usually fundies) are such a PITA: |
|
They're arrogant. What they believe is right, and anything different is wrong.
They think they're superior to you because they're "saved" and you're not.
They're controlling. They want to convince you to believe what they believe.
Anything else?

1. You covered the basics. |
|
They talk about church all the time. (usually one of those arm waving, fundie churches, too)
They drop scripture and God references into the conversation when you least expect it.
They equate gays with pedophiles.

3. They usually have a very limited knowledge of what they're quoting |
|
Mostly derived from someone else. It's like the sound bites that republicans throw out - a lot of sturm and drang with no real backbone, the same narrow set of scriptures over and over. Most of them get lost if you confront them with an actual biblical argument.

4. They cherry-pick the scriptures.... |
|
When it backs up their opinions and/or views, they will shove the bible under your nose and gloat... when it's contrary to what they believe, they make excuses relating to context and interpretation.

the bible is the 100% accurate completely irrefutable word of god, but dont point out that the authors couldnt even agree on how many angels were at Jesus' tomb.

7. They're in denial that |
|
Edited on Tue Jan-08-08 11:58 AM by Rob H.
saying, "Hate the sin, love the sinner," is just a long-winded way of saying, "Hate the sinner."
They might raise all kinds of hell six days a week, but goldurnit, if'n they go to church on Sunday they're still better'n you, ya filthy heathen!
They'll tell you all day long how meek and humble Jesus was and then get dressed to the nines, hop in their Chevrofordlerodge RoadHog 9000 SUVs and drive to the biggest megachurch in the city to worship there.
(Note: applies to fundagelical nutjobs in The Bible Belt; may not apply in all regions.)
Edit: shpelling.

8. Exactly, and they'll commit adultery or whatever else they vocally deplore, as |
|
quickly as the next person.

Why don't you take this crap (and the atheist/PITA thread too) to R&T?
I come here to ESCAPE this crap, not wallow in it.
