I was just trying to make a humorous, anecdotal, real life post, about one black man in New Hampshire who did not support Obama.

It is a strange situation, I agree, but it points to the fact that the black community no longer feels obligated to support a black candidate simply because he is black, and conversely, black candidates no longer feel obligated to espouse strictly race based positions.

In a way it is exhilarating, even though in this case, we're dealing with a (God help us) Romney supporter.

Exhilarating, and liberating, because it means we are free to support Obama based on his political position, rather than his race.

Conversely, it means we are free to reject Obama, based on his political position, without worrying about seeming racists for doing so.

Sometimes people really have good intentions and don't realize the programming that they've gotten growing up in such an institutionally racist society. I have no idea of the specifics so I don't know about you, but it's just that in general when these "OMG, someone called me racist/sexist/homophobic!" threads show up in the lounge it is a case of someone who is unconscious of their prejudice and got called on it getting all outraged and shocked instead of looking inside and taking account of the attitudes that they've internalized.
