I don't know a lot about Dinah. I know a lot of people love her. Do you have an album of hers that you would recommend?

It's a live studio recording with Clifford Brown, Clark Terry, Maynerd Fergusopn, Max Roach, Junior Mance, and other goodies. Amazing energy and one of the best versions of "Come Rain or Come Shine" this side of Judy Garland's astonishing 1960 Carnagie Hall version.

But the top three selections for her at Amazon.com contain most of the songs that appear on my CD's. Also check out the Essential Dinah Washington and the Difinitive Dinah Washington... they appear a bit further down the list, but they also has some goodies. that is one singer who seemed almost mythical to me.
I didnt even know about her til I saw her sing rather late in her life; only a few years before she died. I was really blown away by her vocal tone. sinatra impressed me more the way he "owned the stage" but Sarah's tone instantly got under my skin.
So you want to be another Sarah Vaughan just to have your voice ringing on and on and on....

Both concerts were late in her life. I actually prefer the more mature Sarah. What an instrument!

And if anyone says "Michael Bolton" I'll get Skittles to kick their ass. Michael Bolton is not a crooner, he's a "shouter" a hoarse "screamer"... even though he sings love songs he can't actually croon. -- Allen http://www.m-w.com/cgi-bin/dictionary?book=Dictionary&va=croon

Seriously, all your choices know how to sing a song, not just belt their pipes. I will listen to your choices anytime. (So long as you add Marvin Gaye and Doris Day).

We forgot Bing! He inspired them all. Here's a vote, too, for Andy Williams. Bing, Perry, Andy - is it Christmas time again?
