For a cat who use to get his meals out of a dumpster, my cat sure is fussy
when it comes to his foods.

You give this guy something new to eat and he'll just turn his nose right up in the air. Main cat food is Purina One with Iams Hairball mixed into it.

He demands his snack of one can of wet cat food (3oz) but he turns his nose up to most kinds I get him. He likes Nature's Bounty, but I got him some Iams and he just walked away from it. There are a few varieties of Fancy Feast and Whiskas he'll also eat.

Thing is I could just quit feeding him the wet cat food but then he'll meow and pester me to death until I do feed him something.

The good news is the local humane shelter gets all those cans of food I buy and find out he doesn't like

1. Silly suggestion
Have you tried eating what the cat eats? I recently tried eating some Meow Mix (sadly, I got caught in the act by someone taking a picture, how embarrassing...) and I can see why cats don't eat the stuff. Yuck!

In seriousnss, stick to the Fancy Feast or Whiskas. Preferably the latter since the name doesn't sound pretentous and pompous... :D

2. When I would feed the strays in my old neighborhood, I was always amazed
at how some would turn their noses up at some of the stuff.

Some cats are just picky....

4. well, he's no longer homeless
he's a spoiled rotten animal and I guess I'm to blame for that.

But how can you not spoil something as beautiful as Abbie when he curls up into my chest and falls asleep.

I guess I'll just spend the extra money and make him happy!

of course, she's also Ashcroft's definition of a terra-ist! Seriously, I just feed 'em what they want.

8. Oh my gosh! She is one of the devils otherwise known as
calico or torty and does her coloring include orange and black hair? She is indeed evil and is putting those annoying voices into your head. Feed her what she wants, worship her, and then run away, run away.

9. No, my terra-ist is mostly Siamese -
Here's Sugar:

I also have the calico-type Ashcroft demon - Sassy - who is mouthy (very) but usually somewhat less of a terra-ist than Sugar!

Sassy:

7. My Rescue Cat Is The Same Way
Edited on Sun Feb-08-04 07:06 PM by Don_G
But then again, she hates Tuna and needs something other than "Cat Chow" in her diet.

I contribute to my local shelter too, but my local vet gets my support; he dosen't kill where my "Humane" shelter does after 10 days.

On Edit: Call me a lot of things, just never suppose I'm uninformed or don't assume I'm heartless because I like one candidate over another.

12. heheh..
my now-gone girl, Polly, was rescued by a friend who found her in the woods, starving, matted fur and covered with ticks. The most finicky cat I've owned - would only eat certain brands of wet food, and only certain flavors of those brands. Anything else was met with disdain.

They're funny little critters!

14. My rescue cat Mr. Streets
He weighed about 3 pounds when he found me and I have had him for over 2 years and he weighs about 25 pounds now.

He will not eat any ordinary cat food. He has to have the small gourmet cans and if you don't put Eukaneeba down as his dry food he will walk away until you do.

His litter has to be the best brand or he will hold it back until you buy him the expensive brand that doesn't get stuck between his precious little kitty toes.

Mr Streets is a spoiled Cat.

15. my cat isn't that bad
But he'll probably be stuck on life on the good stuff. He likes Fancy Feast's Crab, Shrimp and Sardines in Aspic. I bought the generic stuff and he walked away from it.

He eats Purina One Salmon & Rice with Iams Hairball mixed into it.

Only litter is Arm & Hammers Fresh Scent Scoopable.

I have a leash and harness for Abbie; I should take him out to the dumpster just to remind him of the days of yore. Maybe he'll quit being so fussy.

18. Oh, Lostmessage, You Are So Good that
You, the Queen of all you survey, are feeding the subservient cat such wonderful, tasty stuff, that the cat can't even believe it! In fact, there might be a chance that such wonderful, tasty stuff will not ever again come his way, if not for the almighty Queen (this is you, by the way). Therefore, the cat must attempt to hide or hoard the wonderful and tasty stuff you provide. And bury it, to make it safe, for later.

It is not poo, it is treasure.

22. Is this what my cat is doing.....
when she pulls the dishtowels off the rack and uses them to cover her food dish? I don't leave the towels out anymore because I would come home from work and they would be on the floor covering the dish, soaking wet and smelling of some food she didn't like.

24. It could be. A cat will protect its source of food.
Edited on Mon Feb-09-04 12:35 AM by put out
My cat is an unstable, unfriendly source of pain in the neck. I am a poor judge of cat character.

But, I still think it's true. She really does try to hide things she likes. At least she doesn't try to hide her kills in the houseplants. If I am not heard from in a few days, search the ficus.

Poor spelling, probably syntax too. Thanks for being generous.

That is one lucky kitty! My Yorkie who adopted me because her previous owner rejected her because she messed on an expensive rug  is a picky eater also. That however, is my fault, not hers.

27. our rescued cat won't eat any kind of fish
and she is picky about other food, too.

My husband is supposed to be the cat person, but the cats he gets always end up my buddies. I was pretty much a dog person until I married him.
Now, I spoil "his" cat, and I'm the one who gets the "I MUST love on you NOW!" stuff from her.

28. I've got a dumpster cat too
He's a midget, his growth permanently arrested I guess by his early deprivation. For a while he'd eat anything...except Iams. Nobody eats Iams. Maybe if you mixed it in a cat litter, a dog would eat it briefly before he caught on, but that's all.
My midget has gotten picky, but will still eat anything if he thinks he's stealing it. If it's in his dish he prefers canned food. I buy canned fish (in the human aisle, same price or better than pet price). He gets it once a day, plus all the dry stuff he can eat.

What he's really fussy about is WHERE he eats. He always takes the chunky stuff to the corner where the garbage can is. It's not the corner, it's the garbage can. I think he's been imprinted by his dumpster experience.
