Poll question: What is the most hated, yet most needed invention?
Needed in terms of society's goal of making money instead of freakin' LIVING? Or even with just living I suppose... Most inventions are nutty gimmicks anyway.

6. Hmmm, the technology industry is going to be...

29. nope
Using Oil for polymer synthesizing is much more cost effective than using it as fuel. Thus using Oil Shale and other sources will ensure Plastic for a much longer time.
Besides: of course the sources can be synthesized - for example ethene is not that hard to produce.

4. The Telephone
I loathe talking on the phone, but it is a device that is needed. Also, I think there is a special place reserved in hell for the person who invented the hold button, and another for the sadist who came up with the idea of musack while on hold.

25. Definitely the automobile.
Pay a year's worth of salary for one (only 100 easy monthly payments at double-digit interest rates), then you have to spend even more on the upkeep... and pray to Jebus that you don't get ripped off. Plus, you have to have insurance, gasoline (which leads to pollution). Gotta love it.
