Poll question: What is the most hated, yet most needed invention? |
|
Needed in terms of society's goal of making money instead of freakin' LIVING? Or even with just living I suppose... Most inventions are nutty gimmicks anyway.

Using Oil for polymer synthesizing is much more cost effective than using it as fuel. Thus using Oil Shale and other sources will ensure Plastic for a much longer time. Besides: of course the sources can be synthesized - for example ethene is not that hard to produce.

I loathe talking on the phone, but it is a device that is needed. Also, I think there is a special place reserved in hell for the person who invented the hold button, and another for the sadist who came up with the idea of musack while on hold.

Pay a year's worth of salary for one (only 100 easy monthly payments at double-digit interest rates), then you have to spend even more on the upkeep... and pray to Jebus that you don't get ripped off. Plus, you have to have insurance, gasoline (which leads to pollution). Gotta love it.

I'm not sure cell phones or television are actually needed for anything but transportation issues have always been big, at least in the Americas.

Started the end of civilization as we know it, in the late '70s. Cell phones too, most especially during a round of golf or while out fishing.
