Anyone ever eaten a Jalapeno Pepper by accident |
|
I might have to go to the Hospital in a minute if the swelling in my lips don't go down.
OMG I bought some spring rolls from the deli at the store and I bite into a pretty thing that looked like a green pepper.
OMG I am on fire right now. :hurts: :nuke:

1. Makes you feel alive, doesn't it? |
|
Seriously, the quickest "fix" to make yourself feel better is to eat a banana or drink a glass of milk (or eat ice cream). They both contain chemicals that will counteract the capsaicin.

How long does it take for the swelling to go down and the pain to stop?

3. Hopefully not very long... |
|
You might try ice, I suppose? I'd be careful about that, though--water doesn't wash away the hot, unfortunately. Ice cream might give you the most relief, if you've got any around...

5. Then I'd make a dash for the closest 7-11... |
|
And grab either a carton of Ben & Jerry's, or at the very least a fudgecicle...
Hope you feel better soon!

I'll gnaw a pine tree before I'll eat fish; it's an allergy rather than a personal taste.

13. A Gardening "Fiend" Slipped Me A Haberano Pepper Once |
|
In a bar and over a "friendly" game of 9-Ball.
He laughed about it, but made it a point to give me all the fresh corn I could eat that year.

17. What did the haberano pepper look like |
|
I would have kicked his butt on that one and he would have given me more then corn.
You should have done some canning that year and a rotten tomato comes to mind when I think about what he did to you.

15. Bet it's not a Jalapeno... |
|
They can be relatively mild & are being bred to be even milder. However, many other chiles are used. Could be a serrano, or a more obscure type.
I once bit into a pepper at a Thai restaurant; it gave a good flavor to the sauce but should NOT have been eaten. Was eating alone--my life flashed before my eyes....
Eventually, I recovered.

It was green with seeds in it and the slice was medium sized.
I don't know about the flavor I was too busy trying not to scream.

I helped a friend can some jalapeno peppers once. We were drinking beer at the time and when I went to take a pee (I'm a guy) I thought the world had come to an end. The pain lasted for several days. You need gloves for that sport.

try a Jamician banana pepper. I love hot, spicy foods, but when I bit into one of those, I thought my head was going to explode.

Capsaicin is not water soluble.
Rinse and spit. Swallowing just moves it downstream.

I've found that holding a slice of plain white bread between your lips can help take the sting out. Also, if you get it into your eyes, weirdly enough you can rub hair across your eyes to get rid of the sting!
My last "oops", though, was with a serrano chile!

last year, my bf and I went to Las Vegas. We were having dinner in a mexican restaurant inside the Rio hotel. I ordered a plate of carnitas and they came with grilled jalapenos.
Now I know that jalapenos aren't that hot (compared to other peppers) so I thought nothing of it. The waiter brought the food and said "careful, these peppers are hot". I offered one to my bf, who likes spicy food more than I do. I said "tell me if this is really hot". While I was gently placing one to my lips (and felt the pain immediately) he popped it in his mouth and started chewing. Then he started sweating. And gagging. And turning red.
I thought he was gonna pass out. He was in such horrible pain, but all I could do was laugh. I bought him ice cream afterward... but I still tease him about it. Any time we get anything remotely spicy I say "Honey, can you tell me if this is hot?"
