What's the secret to posting a popular thread here?
Mine are so deadly dull. Maybe it's just symptomatic of me.

2. You could try a revival of the "yaks, thongs" threads.
It worked once.

4. I just wanna say one word to you. Just one word. --- Plastics!
I'm not sure if there is a magic formula. Camp seems to work, but not every time. Common ailments and common enemies seem to work, sometimes. Humor often gets good responses. Shared experiences. Retro and flashback threads do well frequently. Pet threads almost always work.

5. Or Think Of Something Funny That Most Of Us Can Identify With
"My Cat Pees On Everything" comes to mind and as I recall, MATCOM and GOPisEvil wound up pissing each other off from the origonal thread 12 times removed.

18. Deleted message
Also... if you take the time to reply or comment on something that someone said... it will kick your post to the top again. Thus proving to everyone how popular you are and that you really do have friends and that everyone likes you... they really like you! :hi:

I'm trying to do more of that, anyway. There are so many smart, witty people here. I like to add my .02 to the comments.

13. Deleted message
Sometimes it's OTHERS who determine if a thread becomes popular. Just one or two deleted messages and people start to think that there's a firestorm a-brewin. They will check back often, keeping it kicked up to the top. Sometimes they will taunt and tease the ones who are most likely to lose their cool and post yet another thread that will result in a "Deleted message / Name Removed" entry.

6. Contriversy.
I started that Tip thread last week, expecting people to just vote, but they argued and flamed, and it was fun.

9. Beatlemania didn't do it -- I thought the 40 year anniversary was cool
I did everything but give the thread mouth to mouth resuscitation ... I kicked it, etc.

there was even a 2nd thread started by someone else the day after I posted mine

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=105&topic_id=737740

so, I suppose taken together, the 2 threads did "OK"

17. I think you have to ask something simple
that everyone has an opinion on.

For example: "How big are your feet?" -or- "What's that odor?"

Ah, hell if I know, Terry. Mine sink like stones too.

I thought that would get a lot of replies. Apparently it's only getting curiosity views.

It's not you, Terry. I suffer the same malady. :pals:
