Looks like I may be searching for a new job soon.
Edited on Mon Feb-09-04 01:16 PM by HEyHEY
My editor told me he will be giving his notice tomorrow. This is bad news, I suspect the publisher will be using the editor of his other paper to fullfil the duties of the departing one. He was planning to do that before.

My editor who is quitting is a great guy and patient with a greenhorn such as myself. He also knows the business inside-out and is a great layout guy.

The editor that will be brought in, is a moron, we routinely laugh at how shabby her paper is, with particular attention to how shitty a writer she is. Her layout is just pathetic too.

Long story short, my self and the other reporter here know much more about layout and are better writers than her. And we've been at it for about eight months combined.

So if she is brought in I will begin looking for a new job A.S.A.P. I refuse to work for someone who is less knowledgable and not as good at the job as I am. Not because I have an ego, but because I am still new to this proffession and can't afford to be under the wing of a hack. I'll pick-up bad habits.

I've also heard she is stubborn and a bit of a bitch. That is a bad combo when the person doesn't know how to do their job properly.

OYE! I guess it's back to the drawring board.

2. Well, you'd have to see how horrible she is to truly understand
The graavity of the situation.

My friend gave me a heads up on a job back in BC it pays alot more and is four hours from Vancouver. I wasn't going to look in to it. Because I don't like just taking off on employers. But I think I will be.

3. DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT quit until
you have another job. Take it from one who knows, it is much easier to get a job if you already have one.

5. why don't you...
put together a portfolio of your work and try to get a 1 on 1 with the publisher? Surely he can see that the other editor's work is lacking in quality also.

just suggesting. (and i wouldn't let the "eight months combined part stop me)

6. The thing is, he thinks she's the greatest thing ever
See, he comes from and ad-sales background, not a reporter one. SO he doesn't know much. In fact he actually had the nerve to tell our editor that he was gonna have her come to our paper to "show him a few things."

See she goes through our paper and point out stupid shit in an attempt to make herself look good. But any independent observer would easily say ours is a better paper, I mean that I'm not talking out of my behind.

I'm HOPING he will leave me and the other reporter to do it alone...a bit of a raise would be nice to go with that too.

7. well, that is another option...
just make it as obvious as possible that she (or anyone else) is not needed.

One other point...
Is the publisher an unattractive/insecure sort who just likes her attention? If so, you're probably SOL.

Now you'll just be doing it a bit sooner than you had hoped.

Sorry for your turmoil, though, that really sucks.

16. Yeah, fly fishing with bears does sound good...
;-)

Seriously, maybe you should give the incompetent woman a chance. She might not be so bad after all. At least you can buy yourself a few months until looking for a new place to go.

When does this all take effect?

13. At least give the situation a chance.
You never know how it will work out. BTW, lots of strong women in supervisory positions are called bitches and that's not necessarily the case.

I'm sure it will all work out for you.

14. Meet my boss...
Edited on Mon Feb-09-04 07:30 PM by HypnoToad
She's known as "Female Hitler" and with just cause. One minor infringement of policy and she'll write you up under as many reasons that can be spun.

I know women who make great bosses. Sadly, mine isn't one of them. :-( A pity.

I'm one of them. However, I have been called a bitch before by men who resent women in any sort of authority.

21. I wouldn't judge her
until you've had a chance to work with her and get to know her. I had a co-worker like that. It took awhile, but we have come to an understanding and I have found that her good traits make it easier to deal with the annoying ones. I also found that making the adjustment in my own attitude made a great deal of difference. We are now friends - though she still gets on my nerves OFTEN!
