The Birds: Hundreds Of Robins Drinking From Puddles In My Yard

If you've ever seen Hitchcock's "The Birds" then the scene might disturb you a bit. It's truly strange to see this black/brown/orange "carpet" of birds resting on my lawn... walking over patches of unmelted snow... and drinking where ever they can find pools of melted snow.

Are they headed northward for the coming spring? Is this a good sign that spring is coming?

Or are they stragglers that are just NOW hitting Maryland on their way to warmer climes?

I never saw a FLOCK of robins anywhere. You wouldn't have thought drinking water would be that hard to get that they need to gather in one spot.

7. They're migrating north

Robins usually come earlier, since they like earthworms. Other migrants (warblers, flycatchers) come later with emerging insects.
