Bah freakin' humbug on Valentines' Day.
This year, Mrs Amok and I are in trouble, and apart. This has caused me to notice how Valentines-saturated our culture becomes just prior to February 14th.

It's everywhere. From cutsey dancing hearts on my browser's homepage, to rows of little red cinnamon candies at the grocery store, to 'love'themed programming on TV, even on the freakin' Tech channel!

I'm sick of it!!!!!!

I'm boycotting Valentines' Day this year, and I invite all single, separated, divorced and widowed DUers to join me in my rant!

FUCK YOU, SAINT VALENTINE!

2. It is a crock of shit
Edited on Mon Feb-09-04 05:19 PM by IAmJacksSmirkingReve
It is holiday manufactured to sell candy, cards, flowers, and get people into expensive restaurants for dates. Not to mention enforce the prevailing cultural view that those who can't get dates are worthless in society.

Unfortunately, since that is the culture, that makes it true, so people like me just get to sit home on weekends while the women who bitch to us about how bad their love lives are go out with the same kind of frat-boy piece of shit that treated them bad in the first place. Oh, but this guy is so sweet! He's different!

I'm about to start telling them to go fuck themselves, I'm sick of listening to it. Especially when they say that they don't want to date me because they need "alone time" then within days start seeing (and sleeping with!) someone else. Woo-hoo ain't love fuckin grand.

4. Oh, yeah...
Mrs. Amok is currently being "alone" (huge quotation marks there) so she can "find herself". Here's a hint, honey, "find yourself" *before* you ask someone to accept you into his life unconditionally, and spend eight years with him.

5. Oh, and a quote from Tyler, just for you:
"We're a generation of men raised by women. I'm wondering if another woman is really the answer we need."

6. I'm wondering that myself
It seems there is little point anymore in hoping that there will ever be someone out there willing to condescend to seeing me regularly.

3. Valentines often doesnt work well for couples, either!

About 2 yrs ago I hooked up with an incredible guy (first incredible guy in my life and hell I'm 48 any later I'd be dead!).

On Valentines Day, we had been together almost a year. He lived 90 minutes away, so after work I got the house all ready with candles and flowers and myself ready, etc.
He came in, with flowers and candy, but was atypically completely unromantic. Just kept talking and talking and talking (about politics and his hobby and the weather and you name it), but not really with any real news or excitement or anything. Things went on this way for several hours, even after we went to bed.
Finally, I started crying. Then he came around a bit.

This man is always incredibly romantic. I finally figured it out a few weeks later. He had been married twice before, the second divorce was very very painful. Turns out 2/14 is the anniversary date of that marriage. So I say we forget Valentines Day too!

7. Valentine's Day... I say "Bollocks!"
Valentine's day, is not just an occaision when sad, lonely people feel loathing. I'm married and I can't stand it. Blimey O'Reilly, are people so feeble that they need some asshole to tell them when to be romantic.

Utter shite!
