Why do rich people get all the breaks?
Edited on Mon Feb-09-04 07:44 PM by Edge
I was watching all the spoiled rich kids on VH1 today, and I noticed they get every break imaginable. Beyonce was on there and she mentioned her favorite chicken was from Popeye's. The next clip they showed that she got a lifetime pass for all-you-can-eat chicken to all of the Popeye's Chicken places around the world...not only for her, but for her friends. If I were to say that I liked KFC or something, would they give me a lifetime pass? Hell no. They could care less what I like.

They then went to Christina Aguilara. When she's at a dance club and wants to dance, everyone is expected to leave the dance floor so she can dance without interruptions.

Then there's Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, Nichole Ritchie, Christina Aguilara, and so forth...if they want to go shopping, the whole store closes down so a few spoiled rich kids can shop.

A trend I notice too is that rich people get so much free stuff...I often wonder: Do they ever pay for anything? You get car dealerships, restaurants, entertainment places, clothing stores...all giving stars stuff for free. Hell, at an awards show, I forget which one...but if a star is nominated, he/she gets a free gift basket chock full of stuff that's worth over $20,000!

And about the breaks...just recently, as you all know, Bill Janklow (basically) got off for killing a man because he missed a stop sign due to a high alcohol content. If any one of us did it, we'd get our asses thrown into jail so fast we'd never see the light of day again. Hell, look at the current pResident. He was a rich kid and got off with everything, from killing a man to get into S&B to serving in the military to lying to the entire country about the war in Iraq to Enron to every other offense imaginable.

I hate the rich. I want a break for once.

1. If a business treats the wealthy or famous well...maybe it will benefit...
....that business somehow. Any club owner would want to be the place where Christina goes to dance when she's in some city...it's about attracting business.

It sucks, but that's modern life.

2. Why hate the rich?
I can sympathize a little bit, but I also realize I am where I am
in life based on the decisions I've made. Try not to be too overly
concerned what others get in life, and learn how to make your own breaks in life work out for you.

As for all of the free things celebs get thrown at them it's usually
as a thank you from the giver for enriching their life, such as a restaurant owner who loves a singer's music they feel they owe them special treatment.

Beyonce will not take advantage of the free chicken offer:

On the opposite end of the spectrum there is Paris Hilton. Recently in Las Vegas, Paris bought a monkey, a ferret, and a goat, and brought them with her to the airport expecting to get all of these animals on the plane with her back to LA!!!!!! The flight attendant informed her there was no way the flight would be turned into a travelling circus, and Paris had to get a limo back to LA.

As for Janklow, I think he will have to serve six months in prison. Is this correct?

4. There is a DJ here in St Louis who when he was at his
prime (about 10-12 years ago) he would say he liked a certain food and lo and behold within 20 minutes there would arrive at the studio the food he had mentioned. He also bragged about all the first class upgrades he received. He'd get free satellite TV and all sorts of stuff. Of course since he was the highest rated DJ in the area at the time I guess the businesses saw it as advertising, thinking if this guy likes their product he is likely to sing its praises on his show and his upscale yuppie audience will think of it when making purchasing decisions.

I have a friend who is from a rich family. Because she tends to travel in circles with people from her class she knows a lot of professional people. She gets almost free dental care from a friend. He makes her pay very little for services. It's all about networking.

She is always thinking of ways to get things for free and she lives on a freakin' trust fund!

Things working people must pay for out of their pocket many wealthy and well connected people get for free.

hes diabetic... and he neglected to eat that morning, or so the story goes, he passed out. so they went easy on him, oddly, though, the emt checked his bloodsugar content at the scene and asked him if he had eaten, he said he had and his bloodsugar content had been fine in the test. he also demanded officers friendly to him (who wouldnt have a job without him) on the scene before he allowed it to be processed, and also demanded the specific judge he got in his case, who he know in childhood.

its on the local news at least 3 times a week. happened less than a half hour north of where i live, i wish they would all just shut up about it. lol.

6. Multi-facet issue
They think that if the rich people go there, us shlubs will too... You can bet your sweet bippy I'll never follow the footsteps of those arrogant snots.

However, a store might close for an actor or celeb simply because the celeb is popular and wants his/her privacy. Can't blame them, would you like it if a bunch of people trampled over each other just to touch you and rip your clothes off?

I don't like the rich either, but in some cases they've got a genuine point. The rest of the time they are being spoiled brats who think they deserve the universe because they're popular or have more money.

All fame is fleeting. They'll get their own demise.

8. Most rich people have earned it and are good people
They are by and large, leaders who are trying to better their communities. Most are rich, not because of inheritance, but because they offer services others value and pay for. I don't hate them. I think it is worthwhile to strive to be like them. They have achieved, they care about their surroundings, they add to the tax base, and are bigger contributors to society than they would be if poor.
Take a look at most of the folks running for president. Wealthy people. They know how to make large things happen.
Rare is the snooty rich person who has inherited everything and doesn't work, just goes aroud flaunting money. Most are heavily involved in the workings of society.

10. He may be rare, but he is in the White House now
Sorry, but most people who are rich do so through fruad or corruption. Those that don't accomplish wealth that way usually become rich by taking old family fortunes and manipulating money.

People that are rich through hard work and contributions to society are usually liberal Democrats.

20. oh for cryin out loud
Most people in the U.S. got rich through inheritance. How many times do the statistics have to be published?

I know quite a few millionaires. They may have built on what they were given, but they inherited more money than most of us could ever earn in our entire lifetimes. Certainly more than my parents ever earned in their entire lifetimes or more than I can be projected to earn in my entire lifetime.

An honest hard-working person starts from too far behind. You cannot overcome in a competition with those who start with more money and more contacts -- and, yes, they get the discounts and the freebies too just as a bonus. If you think you can get in one lifetime of hard work what someone else has accumulated for generations, then I would tend to consider you delusional. I guess sometimes if you're young and attractive enough, you can marry it -- I've seen that and it sometimes works out for a few years anyway.

Rich people are not leaders trying to better their communities. They are pigs trying to better themselves. Most couldn't give a flying you-know-what about their communities. They'll spend five million dollars on a party that ends up raising $5,000 for this cause or that cause, all to get their names in the society pages. The world would be better off if they all disappeared in a puff of smoke. And yes too bad about the few decent ones among them...but most of the super-rich are incapable of empathy or any real human virtue because they are completely out of touch with reality. Their attempts to "better" their communities are destroying us. We do not need "leaders" like the Bushes who haven't a clue as to what reality is. It would be better for everyone if rich people didn't work -- when they try, it's generally quite disastrous.

21. Most millionaires are first-generation, NOT inherited money
Sorry amazona, but your posting is grossly inaccurate.

Over 80% of millionaires are first-generation rich. That is, they built their fortunes rather than inheriting them. The wealthy individual is also usually a self-employed businessperson rather than an employee (very interesting!). Wealthy people also usually follow a lifestyle conducive to accumulating money. Source: "The Millionaire Next Door".

Since your assertion that most millionaires inherited money why don't you show us where you got your stats from.

12. I agree. The system sucks.
As far as rich people go, more than anything else I can't stand are those whiny, prissy, snotty rich kids at UND (The Looniversity of North Dakota). They like to make fun of my school (North Dakota State) for being the state's land-grant school and having a prominent agricultural program (like that's anything to be ashamed of), calling us "stupid farmers" and "inbred hicks" on internet message boards.

Same deal, I went to A&M, so I hump sheep in my spare time, while the folks at UT sip tea with their pinkies in the air...

There are enough rich kids at either school so you couldn't swing a dead cat and not hit one...but taunts are taunts...

19. $50,000 gift bag for each Oscar nominee this year
The nominees for Best Actor/Actress are receiving a $50,000 gift bag this year, with $32,000 of the gifts coming from Caesar's Palace, including a $5,000 check to be spent at any of the Caesar's Forum Shoppes. Just one example. It doesn't seem a very cost effective way to advertise since most years they don't even tell the hoi polloi what the actors are getting in their gift bags.
