Never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever...
join a political campaign full-time unless you can go completely without sleep or food for extraordinarily extended periods of time.

That is all.

1. Well, when you were in Michigan you could have stopped by. We
would have fed you for free. Lot's of beer in the fridge as well.

Get rest!

2. Really? My dad was no sweat
I helped my dad get elected, and we slept fine. Of course it was usually after polishing of a bottle of scotch between the two of us after a debate.

Man Mom had the "right to gripe" stick for that period.

Of course Dad is just a city councillor. ;-)

4. I had a dream....
...many years ago. (Maybe 20.) I was running for alderman (er, person) in Chicago -- equivalent of City Council member. I woke up at the moment I was deciding whether to be honest or like the rest of the Chicago City Council (= make a lot of money one way or the other). It is a dream that has stayed with me for many years. I never knew my decision, but am extremely happy I have never put myself in a position to make it.

As in "Get thee away from me, Satan."

Edited on Mon Feb-09-04 10:50 PM by GOPisEvil
Fuck it - you're only young once. Besides, I'm buying beers on March 9th here in TX! (Er, unless you're in LA, FL or MS - in which case whenever you make your stop here, drinks on me!)

Thanks for the mental image. Blech.

I really hope for Will's sake that the guy driving the van isn't like my dad. *grumbles about how he NEVER stopped on roadtrips*

Actually I can almost see him now..."Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet?" Hee.

14. I coulda told you that . . .
did my stint with a VERY liberal Congressman about 30 years ago . . . was paid a hundred bucks a week and was essentially on call 24/7 for any and all tasks, crises, projects, mailings, meetings, whatever . . . wouldn't trade the experience for anything . . . also wouldn't do it again for anything . . . serious politics is a young pesons game . . .

19. Soooo, you are saying you were slacking prior??
GD frikking librul lazy ass shit, whaddya want, a welfare check??

Just kidding of course. I doubt that many have your dedication Will, or that many drive themselves like you are probably doing. Make sure you take time to reflect on the experience and have a life. Demand a bit of personal time so you can recharge your batteries and be that much more efficient. Have a DU gathering or three, I am sure there are TONS of us everywhere you are traveling that would love to give you a few hours off, especially here in Chicago. (you coming in soon??)

Post a schedule, if you're allowed. Even a lunch with some previously unmet DUers may help bring you back to earth!!

Keep marching buddy, you are carrying the banner for many!!

21. Hang in there Will Pitt
You won't regret it!
At my ancient age would probably do it again for the right cause.
Did do some door to door in NM for DK while rather sick in the cold. One person said, well out here in the cold with the wind blowing I'll listen to you and finally that DK must be a great guy. Hope I didn't spread anything to prospective voters.

I've had about 12 hours of sleep in the last 3 days. Let me know if the guy you're working for (I don't want to get this thread locked unnecessarily) needs any science policy help!
