Is anyone else's life ruled by post-it notes?
For whatever reason the only way I can keep my life organized is if I keep a short list of to-do things on post-it notes. Every school year I bought a planner and just *knew* that this year would be different and I would write things down in it...but inevitably 2 weeks later every assignment that I had to do was scribbled down on a post-it on my desk at home. I want one of those neat little PDAs but I know it is a waste of money for me because I know the novelty will fade and I'll be right back to the old standby.

I also write things on my hands until I can go home and write it down on a post-it. This gets tricky if I have to wash my hands so I will write it on my wrist if I know I won't be home for a while. It's a strange system but it seems to work for me.

1. Well, get a PDA, you can scribble notes on them, then get some sticky stuff
and stick your PDA on the monitor at home!

3. Nah, that tacky, gummy blue stuff, or velcro! And if you get a color
PDA, you can use a yellow screen.

Or do as I do. Just right everything down on a little notepad. Cross tasks off as you complete them.

11. And since I'm a guy, everything has to fit in my pockets
so I sprung for a space pen (it even writes upside down). And it fits into pants pockets without poking holes.

5. You shoulda seen my desk
at the last newspaper I worked for. Looking at my monitor was like when it's cold and your defroster hasn't warmed up yet, so you wipe a little space on the windshield to look through.

So, yeah.

6. it is so satisfying to cross out an item on the list
or better yet crumple up that tiny piece of paper and throw it in the trash...there's such a sense of accomplishment there

12. I didn't have much to-do stuff
It'd be kinda pointless at a newspaper. Every day you just sorta re-arrange the same old words.

I had phone numbers coming out every orifice on my body, though — city hall, county offices, schools, cops, businesses, funeral homes, "important people"...

There also wasn't room for one more icon on my desktop, with all the documents and stuff I kept there for "easy access."
