My ankle hurts :(
Seven weeks after I broke it and it still fucking hurts enough to keep me up? Remind me never to do this again.

1. What hurts?
Edited on Fri Feb-01-08 03:55 AM by Donk Yore
Your ankle?

What happens when you smack your ankle with your fist?

It hurts more?

Solution.

Smack your forehead with your fist repeatedly until your ankle doesn't hurt anymore.

Take two aspirin and call me in the morning.

edited to say I didn't mean to sound unfeeling, just trying to be funniferous.

2. Ugh. No drugs for you?
It does seem to take a loooong time to heal after some injuries.

:freak: is the least useful smiley.

In my insomnia tonight, I wonder why we need both this smiley: }( and this one:

Or this one: :-( (with the dash nose) and this one: :(
Or this one: ;-) (with the dash nose) and this one: ;) ....

11. It's what you've been eating lately!
I kid!

Seriously, tho...I have broken three bones in the past 5 years. It aches a little longer than seven weeks. Soon it will fade into a distant memory, most of the time. Take good care of it and get stronger!

12. You're more right than you think
My ankle's been sore ever since Saturday. That was my first cooking extravaganza in six weeks and I was on my feet for a few hours.

13. That thought had crossed my mind.
All that braising!! But really, expect it to be pretty grouchy for a while, especially when you've been too much on your feet for too long. Hope it feels better really soon.

17. Well two of them

were at the same time. In 2001, I was out hiking in a state park and took a step down on the trail. Not sure what happened but I heard a loud snap and went down...tib/fib fracture. The tib was trying, unsuccessfully thank goodness, to make a hasty exit out the side of my leg. It got really close. I had to have a rod and screws surgically installed from my knee to my ankle, where they remain to this day.

The other was coming down the steps at my house. On the last step onto the ground, my foot turned on something (my hands were full so I couldn't see well.) We were on our way to a big county Dem fundraiser I was chairing with alot of food, too. We still went and before long, I really couldn't walk so I literally chaired the event. That was on a Saturday and I went to the doc on Monday. I had an avulsion fracture of the fifth metatarsal in my right foot. Was in a wheelchair for two weeks and then a boot for four. That was a year ago last August and I worked the Labor Day Dem fundraiser in the boot. Boy did I hurt after that day was over!

What did you do to yours?

On edit: I just saw your response to redqueen. Sounds like we did the same thing but with different results.

18. Yep, walking can be dangerous
That's how I've gotten most of my injuries. My worst was a bad sprain at the top of Sentinal Dome in Yosemite. I had to hike it all the way back down on an ankle the size of a cantaloupe.

That sounds horrible. I guess we know where we're gonna hurt the most when we get elderly.

16. Never to break another bone.
Ankles really suck cuz there's so much soft tissue damage that goes along with it.

How'd I break it? That amazingly dangerous activity called "walking" (check the X-games site ;) ) I twisted it while carrying a heavy package. I guess the extra weight made the damage more severe than usual.

I'm gonna start being way more careful while doing this "walking" stuff...
