There have been four "one-date" women in my life.
These are special women with whom I had a special friendship: I could call or visit often and talk about a variety of things, but never pursued an intimate relationship. I suppose that's why I still think of these women in the fondest terms. And I took out each of these four women exactly one time. But I always felt I could pick up the phone or stop by their house any time to chat or visit. No pretense, no "sexual tension," no mind-games, no expectations other than good conversation, kind words, and an occasional funny story.

I suppose as I grow older (I turned 55 last Wednesday), I see that there is some wisdom to be gleaned from age—even for me. I understand now that the few moments I've spent with these friends are special and to be cherished. Forget the sex--(well, not entirely, but just not with these friends)-—it's a woman's touch, her eyes and voice that beget the fondest memories.

Here's to Cindy (we went to a concert), Robbie (went out for pizza), Mary (went to a dance), and Nancy (went to a movie)! :toast: You taught me something that took me 30 years to realize. I only wish I'd learned sooner...

When I get home from work tonight, I'm having a scotch for my four special friends.

I have one. I drink to her every so often-- hoping against hope I'll run into her again, but scared to death should it ever happen.

There's a wonderful line from 'It's A Wonderful Life'-- "youth is wasted on the young". Regardless of whether it's generally true, it certainly was specifically true in my case.

So Kansas, let's pony up to the bar together after work tonight, and make our toasts to those special people that made our lives that much better :toast:

Edited for spelling error.

2. Back at you!

I know three of the four are married (I lost all contact with the fourth one). I consider their husbands to be extremely lucky guys!

3. The winds of change are always blowing

And every time I try to stay
The winds of change continue blowing
And they just carry me away

To all the girls who shared my life
Who now are someone else's wives
I'm glad they came along
I dedicate this song
To all the girls I've loved before

4. I've had several similar friends...
...and they were great. I remember one we just looked at each other and she said, "Hmmm... there's something here, but it isn't romance," and I was greatly relieved.

But that's not what I thought you meant by "one-date women."

So here's to ... damn, what was her name? ... and... that girl that left her bra in the living room... and, of course... wait... Jennifer? Yeah, Jennifer something.
