Saw "The Devil Wears Prada" last night
Pretty fun! I loved the first act, where all the characters were introduced. Meryl Streep's line "no, no... that wasn't a question." was brilliant.

The rest of it got a little bogged down in the predictable story, but Street WAS magnificent every second she was on screen.

My only real complaint was that much of the dialog - especially Streep's - was SOOO soft-spoken that we had to rewind some parts a few times to try to catch what was being said.

And Stanley Tucci was wonderful.

1. The movie was just OK.
What made it worthwhile for me was Anne Hathaway.

She's so beautiful it hurts.

10. I have such a girly crush on her!
I'll watch any movie she's in--the perky-cute thing is just so adorable, plus she seems quite intelligent. Can't beat that.

No matter what he's in.

4. I hated that movie!
I couldn't get more than 10 minutes into the movie before I had to leave the room. Mainly because I worked for a woman like that! It brought back many bad memories.

6. I really liked it until the end (spoiler?)
It's been a few years since I saw it, but I seem to recall not liking the boyfriend, and finding it odd that they would end up running off to follow his dream when there was no apparent development in him over the movie...

Streep and Tucci were awesome, I agree.

9. about the boyfriend *** spoilers ***
in the book they don't even live together but instead she lived with Lily for the second half of the book.

And I got the impression she didn't follow his career. He went to a cooking job in Boston and she ended back at the Elias-Clark building for another writing position (although the book it was Glamour where she started writing again)

8. The book was way better but the movie was good.
Edited on Sat Feb-02-08 01:20 PM by LynneSin
In the book, Andy's friend Lily plays a much bigger role and the Stanley Tucci part didn't realize exist. I think his role was a compilation of about 2-3 chartacters that worked for Miranda Priestly. Christian Thomas's name was Christian Collinsworth, which probably had to be changed since there is a Cris Collinsworth who is a RL NFL commentator.

But in a nutshell it was a good interpretation of the book. Because the Lily role was downplayed in the movie the end was changed as to why Andy left; although, some of the same reason was used.

Get the book - it's a great read

I've read it a dozen times. I think Meryl Streep wasa good choice for the boss. But I think the book covered just about everything.

12. I liked it a lot more than I thought I would.
Meryl Streep was amazing - brilliant performance. Anne Hathaway is cool, I don't understand her detractors because she's a wonderful talent.

My only issue with the movie is that it made the fashion industry people look congenial, I'm willing to bet that they're much much more vindictive in reality.

One more thing I'd like to mention is that I'm sick and tired of aggressive, arrogant, type-A, narcissistic personalities presented as protagonists. Donald Trump, Flip this House, Top Chef, etc... To behave like that is what it takes to succeed? WTF?

13. Meryl Streep was fabulous in that role.
And had Helen Mirren and Judi Dench not been nominated, Ms. Steep would have won another Oscar.

And Stanley Tucci was delightful, as always. One of the most underrated of actors.

14. yeah, it was definitely a fun movie
and you're right, Stanley Tucci was terrific. He usually is.

The scene where Andy takes the lookbook (or whatever it was called) to Streep's house and goes up the stairs and overhears the argument - and then Streep walks by and just *looks* at her - looks right through her, right through the camera, pins you to your seat. Streep was fantastic.

As LynneSin said, though, the book was really quite good; different - no Tucci character, etc. -- but worth reading if you're so inclined.

16. I thought Emily Blunt was the real scene stealer of that movie.

I couldn't wait for the office scenes to
resume.

She was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress.

Was the one in which Streep explains to Anne where her sweater came from. I thought that it was important to show that fashion isn't all fluff.

My husband used to work for the male version of Miranda, so we could relate to the story.

Streep was fantastic throughout the entire film.

Emily Blunt freaking rocks. I love her line when she's like:

I am hearing this (and she makes a moving mouth with her hand, opening and closing it) when I want to hear this (closes the hand)!

Hope you know what I mean by my very bad description of that scene!
