Have you guys seen this crazy movie?
It's called CSA. It is a Spike Lee Movie about what would have happened if the South would have won the Civil War. It's done like a history Channel International show with fake commercials. It's hilarious, nonsensical and really well done. If you think Americans are stupid now, imagine of the South had won the war. This is a lot like what I think we would have been cursed with.
Have you seen it?
Here's the Preview: http://www.csathemovie.com/index2.html

2. The point of the movie was how racism continued after the war in our reality
It's not really a Spike Lee movie; he was just one of the producers. Kevin Willmott was the brains behind it.

But yes, it was an excellent mockumentary. As a longtime fan of historical what ifs (and as a southerner of a certain age), I absolutely loved it. The eye for detail and the artistic understatement is phenomenal.

4. Well, yes...
But I couldn't remember Kevin's name, but Spike Lee is in the credits immediately following the movie, and it's the name that stuck with me. Thanks for the correction.

5. Wilmott is also the documentary "voice" of Frederick Douglass.
Great movie. He has a wonderful voice. His vocalizing of the phrase "good will" will send shivers up your spine.

The attention to detail that he lavishes on his mockumentary is incredible. In his "unreconstructed" post-Civil War America, the Democrats are the conservative, pro-slavery party, and the Republicans, in a world in which Lincoln died of natural causes and Taft never became President, are the party of abolition and progressivism. Probably not everyone who sees the film will get what he's talking about there, but he put it in so that those who know the way the Dems and Repubs used to be will get it. Interesting to see the 1960 Presidential debate in which Kennedy is the Republican and Nixon is the Democrat.

The only error in speculative history that he seems to have made was right after the Confederacy annexes the rest of the Union. The documentary mentions that in 1863, when the Confederacy "wins" the Civil War, Jefferson Davis substitutes "Dixie" for the 'old' National Anthem. The U.S. didn't have an official national anthem until 1931, when Congress formally adopted the "Star-Spangled Banner" as the national anthem.

Other than that small error that took me about ten viewings to catch, amazingly prescient film.

6. Here's a clip of a CSA film of the 1940's detailing the harsh conquest of South America.
This period parallels the WWI period in our own timeline.

Great feel for those early color war films...

7. It was on cable a couple weeks ago
I caught it in the middle. The bit about Abraham Lincoln was a hoot! At least I think that was in the middle. Anyway, I would like to see the whole thing when I have the time and I don't have a huge head cold (like I do right now). What I saw looked imaginative and funny.

8. GREAT Movie

Extremely well done. Every individual who wraps themself in the Confederate flag and says it's just a non-harmful part of their heritage, ought to have to watch it. And watch it. And watch it.....

10. After that, I'll go look for CSA Miami.
I'll definitely check out CSA. I like speculative fiction, what I've read of it.

12. If you liked that you'd probably enjoy Idiocracy

It's about the world in 500 years, assuming the negative correlation between education and number of kids continues. Probably not scientifically reasonable, but entertaining nonetheless. :hi:
