Public Service Announcement: Scotch
Scotch is gross. If you buy some that costs under 50 bucks, you might as well just soak ashes and cigarette butts in water, filter it out and drink it. Because that's what it tastes like.
And that has been a Public Service announcement from YellowRubberDuckie.

20. I like scotch
but recently, I had some supposedly nice stuff from Scotland (a friend of mine bought it while there), and I thought it really tasted like shit. I guess most of what we get in the US is from south east Scotland, but this stuff, which is supposedly better, is from the west and north west. It has a really nasty flavour, which comes from, so I'm told, being distilled from open vats which collect sea salt from the air and are heated from burning peat, which also adds an earthy taste to it. I'll stick with my boring non-salted non-peat-infused southern scotch.

I like smelling of elderberries; they don't smell like Scotch. My mother was not a hamster, and my hovercraft is not full of eels.

28. My husband got a bottle of the really good Glenmorangie 18 year
single malt. He won it at a Christmas party...and it still tasted like wood varnish. My dad likes it though. He got the $140 bottle and was happy.

31. and how long have you been drinking wood varnish?
I, exceptionally, have no idea what it tastes like! now, polyurethane, on the other hand....

I just had the 12year old Glenmorangie, but I like others better. The big split is between Highland scotches and the Islay peat-flavored ones, many not liking the peat. I tend towards the Highland scotches like The Macallan. No smoky flavor.

32. well, on the plus side, I will let you drink it in the same room with
us. My dad loves Macallan. I think the 12 year. I am not a Scotch afficiando, I just know that's what we usually ordered for him at Christmas time.

34. Truly ALL hard liquor is an acquired taste.
I went through a scotch phase (Glenlivet only), but now drink only sour mash whiskey and the occasional gin and tonic during the summer.

You're insane - scotch utterly rules. Bad scotch is shit, but bad anything is shit. Why waste time with bad scotch or bad anything else? In short, drink good scotch and speak no ill of scotch or god will smite you with great smiting...

 (<-- Imagine that that's a really big scotch.)

and I know I've been nearly crucified for admitting to drinking it with Dr. Pepper (which was actually really gross and I'll never do that again). But all of the yum, all of the mellow, none of the smoky flavor
