I'm tired of fighting about politics...
and I'm not talking about GD-P because I won't even engage in there...we're all on the same team, it's stupid to act like children. But I'm talking about in the real world especially with family members. They seem like normal intelligent people and we can discuss other topics rationally (except maybe sports sometimes) but for whatever reason when it comes to politics, they are complete nincompoops. I can totally respect ideological differences but dammit man loudly repeating talking points...the same talking points I've heard since the 1990's doesn't really cut it when you are trying to justify your world view. Then when I'm finally able to get a word in edgewise...and I'm not cut off mid sentence, my response that I calmly try to put forth using you know statistics and historical fact is branded liberal propaganda.

I'm not even angry that we have a difference of opinion, I don't even care that your world view is 180 degrees from mine but god dammit have a good reason for believing in what you believe. You don't think Hillary Clinton will be a good president, fine...why? "um...because I think she is a bitch" Is not an acceptable response in my opinion. I swear if I ran the world I would make classes in debating and logic compulsory.

I think this little guy sums up my mood tonight :banghead:

2. It's just so frustrating
I've been trying to get through to the same people for years, I just don't get it. I donno maybe they are just doing it to get a rise out of me...I doubt it though

3. one of the few times I got in a political discussion with a stranger...
(ok, it wasn't really a discussion. I heard him tell his friends that "no one voted for Kerrey", and I walked over to him and told him to shut his fucking mouth and proceeded to yell more and more), it turned out these republicans (who said that there were WMDs in Iraq - they were sure of it - they just hadn't been found yet, or had magically been moved to Syria) were also holocaust deniers. I kid you not. I never thought I'd actually meet a holocaust denier, but there they were.... history? logic? forget about it.

I don't know if I should feel angry or sorry for that person. They have some serious issues

5. yeah, and there were two of them
big time republicans as well. At some point in this discussion, they stated that I must have a savings account (I have no recollection of how this came up), because "everyone has a savings account". I had to inform them that I was in fact one of these mythical poor people that Fox News told them did not exist. One without a savings account. They were young (I'd say 21, tops) and had probably never left their ritzy home town and resort vacation spots, and had everything in life handed to them - just couldn't conceive of other things existing.... like Democratic voters, poverty, and the holocaust.

6. I never argue politics with my family...
we all feel the same way. We all support Kucinich/Edwards for President...well, except my sister. She likes Ron Paul. :eyes:
