12. Poor Margaret Hamilton...(the witch)
That was her REAL nose.
Saw her in a flick with W.C Fields once...he was flirting with her, and she turned profile...
couldn't mistake it.

20. My father met a lot of Hollywood stars of that era.
He said that Margaret Hamilton was by far the nicest.

13. My family laughed when I wanted to watch it at Christmas.
I am 51. I have watched the Wizard of Oz every year since I was a kid. They all laughed and moaned when I announced I was gonna watch it. Some even suggested we vote on what we watched. I reminded them we weren't living in a Democracy any more and I, the Matriarch of the Family, would be watching the Wizard of Oz. Some left the room to explore other avenues of entertainment and some stayed even though they grumbled.

Funny thing.

By the time Dorothy had dropped her house on the Wicked Witch, all the naysayers were back. The All Powerful Wizard of Oz had sucked them back.

I watched the rest of the movie with a smug sense of satisfaction.

17. I loooove Glenda!

I love that there are GOOD witches in Wizard of Oz... and when I saw it as a kid, I liked the flying monkeys 'cause they were scarry.

19. My niece
got the part of the Wicked Witch in her school play. She missed the part of Dorthy.

She felt better when I told her the play could survive a mediocre Dorthy, but not a mediocre witch!

She had that cackle down pat.

21. Got volunteered by my boyfriend's baby sister to do makeup
when her Jr High class did Wizard Of Oz...

Glenda and Dorothy had girly-girl make-up, so with a bit of exaggeration for the stage, they were OK, but for everyone else, make-up consisted of 'what can you bring from home?' (Tin Woodman swiped his mom's silver creme eye makeup...with the same results that lost Buddy Ebsen the part) and everyone else had to make do with...are you ready for this?

A water color paint box. I kid you not. I'd learned enough tricks in my HS drama class to be able to put age lines on the Wizard, and sorta kittehfy the lion...but almost ran out of green for the witch.
Did a great job on her though.

Wish someone had told me BEFOREHAND that all the scenes where she appeared were going to have red lighting.

18. Where is TOTO?
As a kid I was totally obsessed with following Toto in every scene. I didn't want Dorthy to lose him!

22. I used to know
the entire score for that movie... and tried to sing it like I'd just taken a big hit of helium.

As coroner I must aver, I've thoroughly examined her and she's not only mERely dead she's really quite sincerely dead. This is a day of independence for all of oz and their descendants!

26. My father was born in 1944. They still showed TWO in theaters when
he was young. (it remains one of his favorites) In his household, the word for having to go pee was "toto". Imagine how much he and his brothers laughed when they heard the name of Dorothy's dog.
