Who else is NOT watching the Super Bowl?
I'll probably watch a movie while my wife does homework. I believe I have watched a total of 1/4 of a Superbowl game from back in the early 80s when the Redskins were playing.

Not denigrating watching sports. I'll be glued to the TV for a good part of July when the Tour de France is on.

If so I'll be getting ready for bed so I can work out before going to work. Otherwise I'd watch while doing something else just to see the commercials.

18. Hey Shine
:hi:
Took my first ride in 6 months today. While it was painful it was not as bad as I expected. Did 10 miles at 14.5MPH average. Got a long ways to go before I'll be ready for Death Valley but there's time and I'm getting my motivation back.

your stats are very impressive, considering how long it had been. You were bookin'!

When is the Death Valley ride?? How many miles?

I've got 5 wks to go to get my ass ready for the Solvang Century.

We've had soo much damn rain up here lately I haven't been able to get out on the roads for weeks. :(

I've been cross-training on the stairmaster at the gym and lifting weights, instead.

:hi:

Its a century or double century. I'm only going to do 100 but its going to be a killer. First 50 are all uphill. Check the profile

I started lifting again 2 weeks ago too. The new job is getting me back into a regular schedule.

35. Dang, the top elevation is only 3200ft??? Hell, that's nothin!
:D
shit, that's a training ride for me, here in the Santa Cruz mountains. heheh. Seriously.

4200 ft elevation gain, stretched out over 108 miles is totally do-able. I'm sure you'll do great.

Interesting that they limit the ride to only 300 riders. Do you know the reason for that? Seems pretty small to me.

I'd consider it, but it's a looong haul from my neck o' the woods and that's my daughter's 12 b'day w/e, too.

12. nope, not watching. Probably going to go for a walk,
then work on a few websites. Maybe rent a movie or two; haven't caught up on any new releases in a while. I'm much more interested in Super Tuesday than the Super Bowl!

My husband isn't a fan of televised sports, either. So we're pretty compatible that way. And I do think that there is WAY too much money and bullshit involved in pro sports, and there are some horrible domestic abuse stats surrounding the Super Bowl. I understand why people enjoy watching it, though. Not poo-poo-ing anyone's tv-watching choices, just the culture that surrounds pro sports.

The Superbowl is one of the busiest days. I don't technically work there but they keep me around to fix something if a problem pops up. I am a cheap insurance policy. It is a easy 300 bucks from petty cash.

Ive canceled cable above basic-basic, but I still get snowy images of a couple of channels, one of which is ESPN.

Ah, there they are! I turn down the sound to get rid of the white noise roar, turn on the closed captions, and sit back.

Who needs the Super Bowl when you've got skaters to watch?

I just finished making some chicken soup, and I have a loaf of bread coming out of the breadmaker in a few minutes. Then I need to clean up the kitchen, change the sheets, and take a shower. I'll sit down and read for a while, and then it will be time for Masterpiece Theatre. Then to bed.

I only ever watched the Super Bowl when I was invited to someone's house. Those invitations dried up years ago, and I really don't miss it. I was only there for the company, the alcohol, and the food anyway. :toast:

60. Painfully, painfully, painfully dull
I am a married guy with three kids, big baseball fan, interested in skiing, biking, running and boating, but I have never been able to comprehend this country's interest in football. Watching paint dry is more interesting to me.

I go to the Superbowl parties (even having a mini-party tonight at my house with my wife and kids) but no amount of fanfare, beer, snacks, cheering, hype or anything else can change the fact that

I
find
football
so
very
very
boring.

A guy throws a ball.
A guy catches the ball.
The guy runs five feet.
The guy is tackled by ten guys.

Rinse. Wash. Repeat. Go to commercial every five seconds. Talking heads babbling endlessly about people I don't know and don't care about. Incomprehensible jargon about downs, yards, etc.

This Superbowl would be different, I thought. I live outside Boston, so of course the New England Patriots are big factor here. The wife made lots of appetizers and pizza, I drank a few beers and then watched the kickoff.

Five minutes later I was too uninterested to continue following the game, choosing to re-read the Boston Globe instead.
