1. Cable modem is generally accepted as being faster. |
|
You can ask your Internet Service Providers (for both DSL and cable) what their average download speeds are. You will probably find that cable is much faster.
However, you may find that DSL will be cheaper for you.
Good luck with whatever you decide.

4. Cable is faster, but I've done well with my DSL line. |
|
For some reason, when I had cable internet, my connection was unreliable. It may just be my cable provider, though.

6. DSL is also dedicated to each subscriber. With cable, you're sharing a segment with many. |
|
When someone else uses that bandwidth, it slows everyone else down.
On the same segment, it makes things slightly easier (and faster) to potentially hack into others' systems.
Many cable companies (the monopoly in your area) have per-device fees; and some can detect if a router is hooked up. They are harsh when protecting their standards.
Stick to DSL.

I dare ya!
Just joking.
I'm not the type to hack.
Half the people where I live use wireless - unsecured wireless - maybe I'm the sucker, but I'm not leeching off their systems. And trust me, there's a quantity of idiots that defies description. But they will continue to have jobs in the field - the irony is astounding. Can't program rudimentary router security...

unless you absolutely need faster service provided by cable (most of us don't notice the difference).

We've had both. DSL was fast when they first hooked it up and then it seemed to slow down quite a bit. We're back to cable again and are happy with it.

11. Cable is probably better but you can get some great pricing on DSL |
|
Currently I'm paying $17/month for cable thru Verizon. And that's the permanent price not some teaser rate.

12. Can't be compared at all. A cable modem is a physical object |
|
that one uses to connect to cable broadband.
DSL is a broadband that comes over the phone lines.

my issue with DSL was mostly with the service. sucked bad.
the local cable company is good, and since i also dropped my phone land line, it is cheaper.

I have dsl because of price--like half as much as those thieves at time warner charge In terms of customer service-msn ran a study and customer service for the cable companies was actually worse than customer service from the major telecoms-a fact I have trouble getting a handle on-Worse???? Cable can be very fast--if you are the only user at a given time. However because of shared facilities, I have a friend who is close to a college campus and when school starts and the kids start up their use, her cable modem becomes a nice paperweight.
