Hypothetically, let's say that someone had partaken of weed on, say, January 15th. Hypothetically, say that same person had a life-insurance medical exam on February 18th. Hypothetically, should said hypothetical person be worried?

It depends on how much/how often. Also is that one of the substances being checked for? I would be drinking plenty of water (1 Gal a day) any way because the TCH particles settle in the bladder and need to be flushed out.
Hypothetically speaking of course

19. Do not drink excessive amounts of water on the day of the test |
|
We drug test at work and they'll force you to retake the test if your urine sample is way too watery. And with our company if you fail the second test even for watery urine they won't hire you.
However, they will give you about a day or so to retake the test in order to come in clean, no one has had an issue with this policy.

3. I had heard that THC can hang out in one's system for up to two months |
|
for frequent users; so hypothetically yes, one should be worried if one knows that one is being tested specifically for that. Cranberry juice or apple cider are supposed to be good for helping flush the system.

Maybe I'm naive, but I don't see why a medical exam for insurance would involve a drug test.

7. I don't know if they do or not. |

But just in case.... the only reason I care (I doubt an insurance co. would not cover someone who had trace amounts evident) is that we're getting insurance through my father-in-law, and I don't want him and his wife knowing that the mother of their grandkids may have smoked at some point.

13. That would be confidential, anyway. |
|
Don't worry about it. Just take the dilution advice. Other than that you really can't do anything save for putting someone else's (clean) urine into a container (e.g. an unlubricated condom taped to your abdomen) and putting that into the cup. (I doubt they are as strict as the military, where they watch you piss into the cup.)

I've heard its good to drink a lot of cranberry juice. Purely hypothetical speculation, though.

8. Depends on how they test |
|
Edited on Tue Feb-10-04 12:59 PM by PDittie
Urine? Maybe OK.
Blood? Don't know. (Usually they look for things like HIV or hepatitis when they take blood for an insurance policy, though they may also be using it to see cholesterol levels.)
Hair sample? One could get nailed here. If they snip a lock and discover it, it probably would not result in a decline, but a rating (higher premium).
This examination should be the same as a routine physical (unless you have disclosed particular health conditions on your policy application).
You know, open say ahhh, a bit of poking and prodding, blood work...;)
edited to remove references of male physical examination criteria (sheesh, what a bonehead...sorry about that)

9. probably not; depends how much you were smoking prior to Jan 15 |
|
If you also smoked on Jan 14, 13, 12, 11, 10, 9 then you might have a problem. But I had always heard that four weeks was enough time to clear the system of light users.

14. you're probably safe, but drink lots of water just in case |
|
Myself, I smoked 4 times in the past 24 hours so I would probably have to wait the full 8 weeks before passing a drug test.

My oldest brother, a coke fiend, once passed a drug test after drinking 4 gallons of green tea before pissing in the cup, the DAY AFTER he went on a bender. He got a job in a hotel with a strict drug policy.

I mean, sure it had vodka in it, too, but there had to be SOME benefits to the cranberry juice! Right? :-)
