I got a 99% on an appraisal...
and I want to know why I didn't score 100%. My husband just laughed at me and told me to "let it go."

Am I being unreasonable?

1. an appraisal?
I think most people never get 100% on anything after they get out of school...something about motivation ...

99% is still awesome

2. Yeah, that's what he said
Shouldn't have checked my work email from home.

It still bugs me... that 1%! But thanks.

4. I never handed out a 4.0 (perfect) eval in the Navy
I also turned them down if given to ME. HM1 "Doc J's" motto: "The only 4.0 Sailor I know is named Jesus and he isn't assigned to this division."

5. That is basically what my husband said...
...since he is a manager. But these evaluations are given on a regular basis. And a lot of employees do receive 100% scores. And I have received several 100% evals before. So, I guess I'm comparing myself to others (and my past ones).

6. In the "Continuous Improvement" world....
I always wondered how I would mark and employee as "improved" if they were already 100%!

Catch-22

3. Some managers

seem to think that if they give you 100% that, rather than be encouraged to continue in the same way that got you there, you'll have a tendency to slack off. They think that there always needs to be that carrot dangling out there to keep you constantly reaching.

My most recent former boss was like that, along with a few others in the past. She never gave the highest rating on any aspect of the appraisal. My last appraisal from my new boss-- 118%. Nothing had changed at all, except my boss.

7. Thanks
These evals are actually done by an objective person - in a completely different office - who doesn't even know us. It's an interesting process, to say the least! But it makes it a little more difficult to blame it on the person doing the evaluation. Of course, there is one person... with a certain number... who everyone knows is exceptionally strict (isn't there always one?! lol).

9. Thank you
I'll take your advice. Only because I know I should "pick my battles."

10. I'd say let it go in the sense of not arguing and trying to get the score bumped up
But there's no reason not to ask why the point was deducted. What's the point of an appraisal if you're not told both what you're doing right and the areas where you can improve?

11. I do know the reason why
It is something subjective. Such is life. Anyway, I got off of work early today... so I'm not going to think about it any longer!! :hi:
