It means 'objective', not 'un-interested'!!!!
People on the news keep misusing it!!! Grrrrr!!!
Just had to get that off my chest.

1. This is one of my pet peeves |

I was taught it meant "impartial" not "lacking in interest". I've even seen it misused in novels that got decent reviews.
That offends my eyes and ears almost as badly as "irregardless".
edited to add: and "momentarily". For heaven's sake, people, if you don't know what it means, look it up!

2. Yeah, that one's a classic |

'irregardless'. There's an 'irregardless cafe' near where I live, but I suspect they did it on purpose. I suppose people who say it are fusing 'irrespective+regardless'?

"Undisirregardless", just to be cranky. That usually gives people pause.
Regarding "momentarily", I once heard a pilot say "The plane will take off momentarily". The flight attendant who was checking the overhead bin near me muttered "God! I hope not!". I had to nod and respond "Me, too. I want it to take off and stay up".
We recovering English majors have to stick together.

8. That's one I *do* have to look up! |

I can never remember whether it means "nauseating" or "nauseated". So I just don't use it unless there's a dictionary at hand.

11. And there are so many others |

I don't mind change in language and usage, just not flat out wrong usage for no reason, as in when there perfectly good every-day 'normal' words people could use instead of sounding high-minded and messing it up. That's a whole other socio-linguistic discussion though.
