But not to worry because the gas tank will only last 12 minutes.

Q. I hear that the Bugatti Veyron has a top speed of 254 mph. How long will tires last at that speed? --R.T., Chicago

A. About 15 minutes, but the Veyron's gas tank will be empty in just 12 minutes, says the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum, which is displaying the approximately $1.1 million Veyron through April. The Veyron is portrayed at the Auburn, Ind., museum as "today's ultimate production car" and displayed near a 1931 Duesenberg, which is called "yesteryear's ultimate production car." The Veyron has held the unofficial record as the world's fastest production auto. Its turbocharged 16-cylinder engine produces 1,001 horsepower and the car can do 0-100 mph in 5.5 seconds. It has been made since 2005, but only 300 will be built until production ceases next year.

4. That would make for a most interesting YouTube video
As an aside...

At 254 mph, it lasts 12 minutes on a tank of gas.

That's 4.23 miles per minute, so the car travels 50.76 miles before running dry.

The car has a 26 gallon tank, so that's 1.95 miles per gallon. Makes a Hummer look good...

16. It's no longer the fastest production car in the world, anyway.
Not that it makes a damn bit of difference to those of us who live in the real world, but there's a new Konigsegg model that beats the Veyron's top speed by a few MPH.

Costs (if I remember right) about twice as much, too. But hey, it is a production car; they're planning on making 14 of them.
