DuStrange's book club: Island of the Sequined Love Nun
An excerpt:
Malink pulled a copy of People magazine from his basket, drawing everyone’s attention away from the cannibal.

“There will be no more People for a while, not with the Sky Priestess mad at us.”

A communal moan rose up from the men and the drinking cup was filled and passed.

“We are cut off,” Malink added.

Sarapul shrugged. “All the people in this book, they shit. It does not matter. They die. It does not matter. If we put them all in a big boat and sank it, you would not even know for six months when the Sky Priestess gives you her old copy, and it still would not matter. This is stupid.”

“But look!” Malink pointed to a picture of a man with unnaturally large ears, “This man is a king and he wishes to be a tampon. It is quoted.”

Sarapul scrunched up his face, his wrinkles folding over each other like venetian blinds, while he tried to figure out what, exactly, a tampon was. Finally, he said, “I was a tampon once, back in the old days, before you were born. All warriors became tampons. It was better then.”

“You have never been a tampon,” Malink stated, although he couldn’t be sure. “Only a king may be a tampon. And now, without People, we will never know if this man who would be a tampon succeeded. It has been a dark day.”

I think this is both what the author was doing for inspiration and perhaps it helped you enjoy it?

5. I lent my next-door neighbor a Christopher Moore book. Within a week, he had
gone out and bought ALL the Christopher Moore books.

That guy is an absolute riot!

20. "Lamb" is a hoot.
I loaned it to a friend who was going to divinity school, and never saw it again. The friend's still talking to me, so I think he liked it.

Surprisingly non-blasphemous, unless one's offended by a Messiah who occasionally uses a vulgarity for emphasis. It also contains the only reasonable explanation anyone has ever offered for the existence of an Easter Bunny.

14. "Island" is my second favorite Moore novel, so far.
"LAMB: the Gospel of Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal" has been
my favorite so far.

But he's got five I haven't read yet, so who knows- the rankings may change.

16. So I guess if you keep having the book reviews
We will just have to dub you the D"Oprah of the lounge (I made it " because you are not quite up to D'Oprah status yet. In fact, if you are not careful a couple of dwarves could knock you over...);-)

19. What did I write on that napkin?
In fact, if you are not careful a couple of dwarves could knock you over...

Whoa, Freshman year all over again...

It's funny that you should mention Oprah. I skipped a line in the excerpt above where the chief starts perusing People and says, "Oprah is skinny again."

How can you go wrong, with organ stealing "missionaries", cargo cults, & a talking fruit bat named Roberto???
