Old "Buddy" was really funky last night. (dog post)

Buddy is an old guy, age unknown but usually a very mellow dog. Usually he likes to sleep on the bed at night & he is always calm, so calm you don't even know he is there. Last night was something else.
He got up there and spent about a half an hour licking his foot & snorting. I finally turned on the light to examine his foot and besides being very wet, there was nothing wrong with it. I turned the light back off but he wouldn't lay down & sleep. I finally had to put him back down on the floor but he kept trying to get lifted back on the bed. He was also snorting & pacing by the bed between attempts. I started to think something was wrong with him.
I sat up with him for a while & finally the other dogs wanted to go outside & he followed. This morning he is sleeping peacefully on his pillow like he normally does. Do dogs get insomnia?

1. I don't know? Do dogs get foot cramps?
Could be?

He's a sweetie snookums by the way. I had a dog named Goldie that looked a lot like that when I was a kid. Chubby like that too.

4. He's just big boned.....(LOL)
I think I may have corrupted him after he came to live with me. He used to live up the road & was an outdoor dog. He didn't get a lot of attention and had to compete with 15 other dogs for the food the people put out for the whole crew. He is still protective of "his" food now & has become accustomed to hanging out with me inside. He is starved for attention & since I pet him whenever he wants me too he has become fat & happy.

2. My lab has problems with chewing/licking her feet.

She's older, too. The vet thinks it's due to allergies, but we've never been able to fully puzzle it out.

3. hm. one time episode, no biggie
And that it was one foot, I'd also think it was nothing to worry about - BUT if it starts repeating, he could have either an issue with his foot, or a bit of a neurological issue that older creatures can get. He might have been bitten by a very small spider/ant/whatever (though it's too cold for most insects right now) or any number of things.

Buddy looks like a sweetheart! Poor snorting fella!
