Anyone see "Elizabeth: The Golden Age" with Cate Blanchett? |
|
I'm thinking of renting it --- I liked the first Elizabeth, but heard some not-so-good things about the sequel. Any thoughts?

Although anything with Helen Mirren is great, so I wasn't surprised.

Even if you don't think it's as good as the first, I definitely think it's worth it. :D

I think Cate should get the Oscar for it. A few liberties probably taken historically, but the film kept my interest, the acting was great, costumes were as well, art direction was fantastic.
It's kind of weird, I don't like period films like "Atonement", "Pride and Prejudice", etc...but I enjoyed this and other films like it. I suppose it's the romantic type period films I don't really like.
Anyway, it is surely worth the rent.

I'll go rent it. I haven't seen a movie in quite a while, so I was looking for something captivating. Thanks, y'all!

Beautiful costumes, great acting...
Cate Blanchett's portrayal of Elizabeth's inner turmoil was especially moving... she yearned for emotional intimacy, but as queen, she had to maintain her distance. And to be queen of a male-dominated country in a male-dominated world, facing down the formidable Spanish empire... truly an amazing woman.
