The fuck.. I've gained two pounds? |
|
Okay, so for the last three weeks I've been eating properly. I wake up, breakfast is usually some cantaloupe, have an apple around 11... sandwich around 12:30, a granola bar at two, then some spinach then dinner. Yet, I've gained two pounds.. what the hell is that about? I also work like 15 hours a day and do a fair amount of walking because of that.
Anyone have some input?

1. I gained 7 between May 2007 and January 2008. |
|
Am exercising as much as my body lets me; I am getting to get rid of the blubber and be fit.

2. You've gained two pounds of muscle. |
|
Especially if you're working out that much. Stop weighing yourself. How your clothes fit will be a better indicator.

8. Well, let's walk through it |
|
"I wake up, breakfast is usually some cantaloupe, have an apple around 11... sandwich around 12:30, a granola bar at two, then some spinach then dinner."
You have the right idea, eating multiple times a day. Looks like around 6, which is perfect. Problem is the calories (I'm assuming that sandwich isn't a Reuben or some other fatty nightmare). It's noon before you've taken in 200 calories, most likely.
Without knowing your specific bodymass makeup or your goals, I'd make an initial suggestion of tweaking it slightly. I'd have a granola bar (or something like it...even yogurt or cottage cheese if you eat dairy) with the cantaloupe at breakfast. Gotta get a little bit of fat and calorie content in you early. If dinner is at 6 or so, you're looking at 18 hours of fasting for the most part.
Do you exercise/go to the gym? You mentioned a lot of walking during work...and those hours look a little stressful. I think that your mindset and discipline is awesome, so you've got most folks beat already.

9. I'm six feet tall and weigh 197 |
|
Two months ago I was 188... so I kinda got spooked. I wish I could go to the gym, but haven't the time. I start work at nine AM and finish at midnight. My sandiwch is usually chicken and lettuce, no mayo or anything. Should I maybe eat another helping of spinach at nine or something? Or another piece of vegies or fruit sometime through the day?

14. That's 9 pounds in 2 months. |
|
Any other big changes? I mean, 2 pounds in 3 weeks is one thing, but that leaves 7 pounds over the other 5 or so.
Regardless, yes, you need more calories, but you need some of them early. You can't "starve" for 18 hours. Melon is great for you, but it's also a fast-digesting food.

I really appreciate the body wisdom you share. Are you doing professional training these days? If not, you should. :hi:

Professional training, like for clients? No. Not that I'm getting paid for, anyway. I have multiple certifications, but if I tried to do this for a living, I'd starve. I give it away...kind of a "pay it forward" type of thing.

12. I agree--happened to me too |
|
I was eating next to nothing, working out...and gaining. Now, when I have the drive to stick to my blood-sugar-control diet (read: when I'm not stressed and feeling sorry for myself--"I deserve that cookie!"), I feel like I'm stuffing myself, but I'm just following the "several small meals" approach.

I have some output though, watch out before I sit on you!
come on, two pounds? When you start counting by tens, then we can chat.:spank:
in all seriousness, it is frustrating I know. It's natural to go up and down no matter what you do, especially if you are eating right consistently and when the numbers are that low. I've gone on a serious diet and have dropped two pounds in three days, and gained three pounds in two weeks (due to hitting plateau's and all that)..
Keep doing what you're doing, and you will reach your optimal weight. (Once you break a plateau, you will drop easier too, unless all you needed to lose was a few pounds.. the last few are the hardest)

11. LOL! 2 lbs?!? Big deal. At least you don't have to deal with monthly water weight gain |
|
from periods. :eyes:
Besides, it could be muscle mass you've gained. Muscle weighs more than fat.

16. Listen to flvegan's advice, and concentrate on consuming healthy protein |
|
in the morning. Every morning, I start with a drink of 2 scoops of whey protein powder mixed in around 12 ounces of skim milk (about 55 grams of total protein), along with a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and a banana. A healthy way to take in lots of protein to begin the day, and it does a great job in reducing cravings for sugars and other unhealthy garbage throughout the day. I usually eat 2 or 3 more bananas at snacktimes (mid-morning and mid-afternoon) in addition to a decent lunch and dinner.
For the record, I'm about 6'1" and weigh about 184 at the present time...

18. Go to the bathroom, then weigh yourself again. |
|
A pint of urine weights about a pound. Take a good long pee, maybe go see a man about a horse, then weigh yourself again.
