How long does it generally take for Pap smear results to come back?

I had my test on Friday and the doctor felt some "irregularities" on my uterus and I'm sort of on pins and needles waiting to hear back about my Pap results. It's been like 4 years since I've had one. I'm a bit on pins and needles. I'm to go in for a uterine ultrasound as well but today I procrastinated about scheduling that. I know I'm a big old worrywort but Pap results don't take more than a couple days, do they?

1. Depends on the lab. If they find something, they will call your doctor right away

Mine took two weeks, but I live in Florida and they're idiots here.

...depending on how far away the lab is, that they have to send it to.

Sorry, sweetie, but they do take more than a couple of days...

I'd suggest you get in there for your ultrasound, instead of putting it off...

8. It's so humiliating how they do it though

because they do it "transvaginally" which means they stick a probe inside you. I have to go through that and I don't even get to have a cool abducted by aliens story to go with it? No fair. Maybe my mom would come sit with me when I have it done. They always bring in another medical person in the room when they do that but it's still always a stranger and having another stranger in there watching them do that just sort of makes it worse. And wow, who knew that perimenopause could make you as weepy as you get when you're pregnant.

But they don't take too long and you can help either identify issues or breathe a sigh of relief. To me, it would be worth it. But, to each their own.

5. It usually takes my doctor 2 weeks

Last July my doctor said he "felt something" and made me go for two different kinds of ultra sound tests (and have a blood test). Everything was normal. Please try not to worry.

You really should get one every year, you know. And, if I can go, with my severe white coat anxiety, you should be able to! :hug:

Hey, I've had every possible uterine "irregularity" including grade IV dysplasia and it was caught early and taken care of. You will be okay :hug: because you're smart enough to go for your checkups. As for the uterine ultrasound... piece of cake! Mine was *cough* vaginal and a bit embarrassing, and then the diagnosis scared me and then... nothing. Please don't worry.

15. Generally you only get a callback on pap results if something's potentially wrong.

If you're not sure, call your doctor's office.
