We are due for a big storm today. 6-8" snow during the day followed by sleet/ice/rain/snow mix later tonight
here's the problem - the storm is coming in west of me, which means it's going to hit the town where I work first. I have an hour commute.
our local weather is saying the storm won't reach us until 9ish this morning, which means by 8ish it will be snowing in my work area.
suppose to start off light, then get heavier by afternoon. the road I travel on is not a major road, lots of hills
I usually leave the house by 7am to get into work by 8am, by the time I get to work it will be snowing there, and basically I will have to leave almost as soon as I get there to beat the worst of the storm.
Should I go to work, (only to turn around soon after) to show I made the attempt - or just plan on working from home. the other problem is tomorrow's commute. Depending on when the storm ends, how much of the "mix" is ice/sleet, I could end up putting myself on a 2-hour delay, or if it's worse than predicted, end up staying home another day...
I did pack my bag yesterday with work I can do at home, and my boss is understanding of my commute and the road I have to travel.

1. That's always a tough call. |

I too commute and keep close tabs on the weather. If you're sure you're going to get hit big, stay home! I did that a couple of weeks ago, and did not regret it. I can do a few work things from home, which helps, but no job is worth risking your life battling snow storms trying to get to or from work.
Good luck!

Take a snow day. Sleep in. Watch a movie. Have some hot chocolate. Take a nap. Do some of your work. Call an old friend. Get caught up on a project at home. Shovel the snow. Don't feel guilty.

If your boss is understanding, why take the risk? It's more fun working in your jammies on the couch, anyway.

With your horrible unfortunate luck with automobiles the past few weeks, I would stay home and do your work there.
Thinking of you.

6. I've had the same problem all winter. Early on this winter I left |

work at the first snowflake and the storm came in so fast that I got caught in it before I could get home. I decided then that I was not going to wrap myself around a tree for my job.

9. Same here in Central Ohio |

I live 25 miles from my office. Snow up in my county but ice/sleet later today in Columbus. Last time we had bad weather, it took me almost 2 hours to drive 12 miles.
Only difference? My boss is *not* understanding about my commute and the roads...
