If you applied for a job, knowing upfront the schedule they want, |
|
but then turn it down with the claim the hours are wrong, is there any conceivable reason for doing so?

1. Bargaining chip. Or lifestyle change. |
|
An applicant might be betting that he did such a great freakin' job in the interview that he can get any schedule he wants. Or he might have realized, "No, I really can't work the swing shift, after all. Maybe they'll take me on, anyway."

2. I hired a guy (some years ago), with the understanding that Saturday |
|
is a working day. His work schedule was made, and come Saturday morning, he doesn't show up. So, I call his house -and wake him up- to hear his reponse: "Saturday?..I don't work on Saturdays." And that was the end of that.

3. I've dealt with many student aides over the years with similar grips on reality. |

And when you say the shift starts at 7:30 am, I don't know what they hear but it's not 7:30. The worst ones were the jocks-- it's like they take the job and figure 'coach' will fine tune things later.
